Orly Taitz resurfaces in New Hampshire

Would it help if we were to send Orly Taitz a nice card: “Look, we’re very sorry your parents named you something that sounds SO MUCH like “oily taints” but Obama had nothing to do with it! Stop bothering the poor guy!”

Not that it matters anymore but I’m surprised the “Obama’s grandmother” thing is still a thing. Surely someone with such impeccable scholarship credentials would have noticed that the clip in which Obama’s grandmother (who is not a native English speaker) implies that she was there at the birth also includes a clip where, when the question is repeated and clarified, she immediately indicates that she had misunderstood the first question and that she was not there for the birth.

I mean, surely selecting one sentence out of context, basing an entire argument on a highly subjective parsing of that sentence and disregarding the large volume of evidence demonstrating that that parsing is incorrect is a rookie mistake that a dedicated researcher such as the late unlamented KBO would avoid?

Or, you know, not.

Can I just say that I fully expected this link to be a Rickroll?

Awww Marley… It was just getting really good, then you banned him … Fun while it lasted I guess.

You can probably find KBO on FreeRepublic or some such site.

She’s on Twitter.

Let’s start a petition to bring her back. She was fun.

Heh, on Youtube in the comments of the video she is threatening us on making a new video to denounce the SDMB censorship and lies.

You really have to wonder why she is imagining that we are so important, the only thing it shows is that if work and energy should be spent on us, it is a tacit admission that efforts elsewhere are failures or bound to be as it is in the courts.

Wait, I listened to about 30 seconds of that, and did she really create that video using Xtranormal? Or am I hallucinating those digitized voices?

Digitized voices? I assumed that was just her normal speaking voice.

It sounds very Xtranormal to me, but I have been watching Xtranormal videos all afternoon, so I could be sensitized.

Spartacus!

While the entire exchange was immensely entertaining, I need to say that two days later, I’m still laughing at this line.

Wow…

I thought my little story about Ms. Taitz’s brief efforts in New Hampshire would produce the requisite chuckles from some posters here and then quietly fade away. I was then pleasantly surprised to witness the meteoric rise and fall of a real Birther. The posts by KBO were spectacular, both in their lack of clarity and in their ignorance of the information currently available, and I am sure Ms. Taitz is quite proud of his/her efforts to enlighten those of us who do not realize the threat we face.

My thanks to all participants for the entertainment and to Marley23 and the other mods for letting KBO to be batted around for six pages.

Wouldn’t Obama be a natural born citizen even if he was born on the moon?!

Does anyone dispute his mother was a USA citizen? If not he is a natural born citizen even if he was born in Kenya so who cares! Google Counsular Record of Birth Abroad for a start on how your USA citizen mother or father can document you were born a citizen.

Beating a dead horse.

Some people dispute that her citizenship does not confer citizenship on her son if he was born outside the country, because she was not a resident for five years after the age of 14. Supposedly, some federal regulation requires that.

Past tense; citizenship law has since changed. But, yes, that is the argument.

The argument is that Obama is covered by the old law, that was in force at the time of his birth.

You missed the entire point of the “argument”. It’s a fascinating example of how conspiracy theory thinking works.

KenyanBornObama wasn’t arguing that Obama was born in Kenya. The argument was that Obama’s father wasn’t a U.S. citizen. Why does this matter? KBO claims that the definition of a natural born citizen is someone both of whose parents were U.S. citizens. This isn’t supported by any real law, but if you cherrypick certain statements from the past without giving the other side you can make the case. The problem with this for the rest of us is that it sets up a third class of citizenship. In our world, there are two types of citizens, natural born citizens and naturalized citizens. KBO wants to set up a third class, those who were born here and are citizens but are not natural born citizens. Normal people wouldn’t create a class of citizens without the weight of formal law, but conspiracists find the law they want by using “logic” on words. Courts have specifically thrown out this claim as nutso but KBO refuses to recognize that because that would undermine the whole argument.

And the most wonderful ability of conspiracists is to shift the argument seamlessly even when it contradicts everything said earlier. Whenever convenient KBO does insist that Obama was born in Kenya and not in Hawaii. Why does this matter? If you had read the several hundred previous threads on this issue, there is a technicality in the law governing citizenship when Obama was born that would have excluded him because of his mother’s age. Maybe, at least. That never seems to have tested in court.

You see the beauty of this. If you refute the father’s status, then the mother’s status must be suspect. If you refute the mother’s status, the father’s status must be suspect. It’s working backward from the “fact” that Obama is a fraud to whatever is needed to prove the claim, no matter how contradictory or contrary to settled law. That’s perfect conspiracy theory thinking. You can recognize it in any CT’s, from trutherism to moon hoaxers to anti-Oswaldians and anti-Shakespeareans. Always start with the end and work backwards to cherrypick whatever facts you need, and make up any that aren’t easily findable. Once you recognize the pattern it never fails. You can tell from the first words that crazy is the special of the day. What a great timesaver.

Well, that one’s no good. People get grandfathered into changes in citizenship law. Now, whether his retroactively becoming a citizen from birth whenever the law was changed makes him a natural-born citizen under the Constitution could be an interesting argument.

First they have to prove he wasn’t born in Hawaii, though.
