Oscars 2017 thread

Original Screenplay

Manchester by the Sea, Kenneth Lonergan

Kenneth Lonergan has an Oscar now!! I’m so happy!

KImmel’s been great in his takedowns of Donald Trump… and Matt Damon.

Yes, they did, and yes Go_Arachnid_Laser missed Prince in a scene from Purple Rain in the just screened In Memoriam.

Adapted Screenplay

Moonlight, Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney

How the F*CK could they include Prince but omit David Bowie in the Memoriam segment, not to mention a laundry list of other actors and actresses? (See Celebrity Death Pool 2016)

Mahershala Ali went to my high school.

Was Bill Paxton in the montage? (following along from work)

List of those honored in last year’s ceremonies.

As mentioned before they did mention Bowie in 2016.

Bowie was in last year’s memorial reel. They used a shot from Zoolander.

Jennifer Aniston mentioned him in her introduction, but I don’t think he was in the montage. Probably too recent. Hopefully they include him next year.

Yes Dewey Finn but those on your list died in 2015 and were honored in 2016. Those who die in 2016 are to be honored in …

Including Bowie and Rickman.

Directing

Damien Chazelle, La La Land

They mention that He is the youngest director to win.

Uh. no, you need to think of it like a “school year” the ones honored do include the ones that died in January and February of the year the Oscar are given.

The clip from La La Land just reminded me how much I loathe people talking during a concert.

Actor in a Leading Role

Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea

La La Land is 5 for 11. Still not a bad total.

The “other Affleck Brother” no longer!
