For instance, the Sound Mixing category has a nomination for Kevin O’Connell. This is is 21st nomination without a win.

[Wilhelm Scream!]*

*( No, not as a criticism of you but to the members for not giving it to O’Connell )

Predictions based on early awards from 538:

The sound of Hacksaw Ridge was amazing. It would be a shame if he got it and everyone thought he got it for any reason other than that he did an amazing job.

Sorta meta, and if you don’t like jeers you might want to block me for the next 6 hours, but serious question: Just saw the Disney Avatar ad and was wondering, now that 3-D is dead does that mean that the dandelion fluff storm will be over on Pandora?

I just saw Jackie Chan applauding in the opening number in the crowd.

I’ve seen all of the Shorts (Animated, Live-Action and Documentary) and all of the Features nominated except for 7 (I’m missing 1 Actor,-Captain Fantastic, 1 Animated-My Life As A Zucchini, 1 Documentary-OJ: Made In America, 2 Foreign Language-Land Of Mine and Tanna, 1 Sound Mixing-13 Hours, and 1 Song-Jim) and I STILL can’t predict some of the categories. Other than La La Land, which I guess will dominate (sigh).

That opening song from Trolls (which I liked) was pretty fun.

I have the sound turned down on the monologue. I usually hate Oscar opening monologues, no matter who does them.

I think he’s getting a Life Achievement award.

Jimmy Kimmel: Mel (Gibson), you look great! I think the Scientology is working…

Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar goes to:

Mahershala Ali for Moonlight

MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING
The Oscar goes to…

Suicide Squad.

Good for Mahershala! He was great in both Moonlight and Hidden Figures this year, and really showed off his range.

A trivia bit about Lucas Hedges, nominated for Manchester By The Sea, his father is writer/director Peter Hedges, who was nominated in 2003 for co-writing About A Boy. Lucas and his brother accompanied Peter to the Oscars back then, and now he’s here for his own work. Peter didn’t win either.

VERY deserved.

Suicide Squad is an Oscar-Winning movie.

Yeah.

COSTUME DESIGN

The Oscar goes to:

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

It had Oscar-worthy makeup.

I know.
