That ad from Cadillac was really uplifting.
They used to do best supporting actor and actress awards to kick off the show.
Did they change that, or did I miss the supporting actress?
mmm
How wonderful to see the real Katherine Johnson onstage!
What the hell is a 68-hour TV documentary nominated at the Oscars for, let alone winning? Dammit!
Presumably they showed it in two tiny theaters, one in New York, one in LA for a week.
ESPN just went and premiered all 7 and a half hours of it in a theater.
No Supporting Actress yet.
Isn’t a Los Angeles area screening required for a film to be Oscar nominated? For example, the score to Chaplin’s “Limelight” won a Best Score Oscar in 1972–twenty years after the film was released. It apparently was never seen in LA theaters when first released.
Had to step out for a few moments, but yes, the Best Documentary winner was:
O. J.: Made in America
Well, ugh. Just, ugh. I’ve had the screener for weeks (I was supposed to watch it before voting on the Independent Spirit Awards), but there are few things I wanted to do less than watch a 7 1/2 documentary about a murdering scumbag. 45 minutes would have been pushing it.
The director did dedicate the award to Nichole and Ron, which was pretty decent of him.
SOUND EDITING
Arrival
SOUND MIXING
Hacksaw Ridge
I thought they had rescinded 13 Hours’ nomination? Maybe too late to change the teleprompter?
KEVIN FINALLY HAS HIS OSCAR!
One of the Sound Editors was knocked off the nomination list, not the movie itself.
Got it. Thanks!
Early returns seem to indicate La La Land might not be headed for some gigantic sweepage…
…and Kevin O’Connell has got a serious resume of films to his credit!
Actress in a Supporting Role
Viola Davis, Fences
This is the slowest ceremony I’ve ever seen. It’ll be Tuesday before it ends.
Having watched so much of the trial back in the 90s, read so many articles and books, so recently watched American Crime Story, I wasn’t interested in OJ: Made in America. I needed a break. But it was on last weekend and I couldn’t look away. It was excellent.
I would have voted for 13th instead, but it wasn’t a robbery.
