CBS Sunday Morning showed one of the nominated animated shorts (Pixar’s Piper) – It was seriously cute.

It’s one of those categories where professionals in the field nominate, and the majority (who are mainly actors) vote. So it’s one of those situations where getting nominated is the main honor, as the non-experts tend to vote for the film they liked best.

Yes, the Iranian film. The Iranian director of The Salesman would had been banned to come to the USA under the executive order.
The order was stopped in the courts, but it would be a guess if he had been allowed to come if a new order was made, so a statement was read explaining that he was not present to accept his Oscar to protest that nonsense that banned also people that already had visas.
And there is the simple but poignant ad by The New York Times against the Alternative Facts (AKA Lies).
