Guinastasia What, specifically, did you hate about it? I refuse to watch Anastasia due to the numerous inaccuracies and the terrible misrepresentation of Rasputin. I do own a few Rasputin and Bartok toys though.
Which reminds me, McFarlane toys will soon release a Rasputin action figure. He’s performing some alchemical work (which I rather like. AFAIK rumors that he was a great alchemist started way back when he first came to power.), while mortifying his flesh by suspending himself over stakes by means of large hooks passed through his skin (this I rather dislike. Rasputin preferred to test his flesh by drinking prodigious amounts of booze and sleeping with prostitutes.).
In the 20’s, caves were a huge business. If you found a cave on your property, you could open a roadside attraction that was pretty much guaranteed to make you tons of money. So all the owners of these caves were competing to find bigger, better, more spectacular caves. Floyd Collins wedged himself into a teeny crevace, hoping to find the entrance to a new cave, and got trapped 150 feet below surface.
It turned into a media extravaganza, people were selling refreshments and lining up to see the hole where he was trapped, still alive because they were lowering food to him while they tried to figure out a way to get him out. When they finally got him free, it turned out he’d died awhile ago.
But it doesn’t stop there! Apparently, his body was then displayed in a glass coffin, where it was stolen and later found in a field missing a leg!
There’s been a couple documentaries about it, but I’d love to see a feature film. Determination, triumph of the human spirit and a sad but whimsical ending! Maybe a Cohen Brothers film???
I’d like to see a good movie on the Kent State massacre. There was a rather second-rate one, but you could write a really good screenplay on those four people and what happened to them.
Huh, thanks for that, I’d never heard of it before. I’ll have to check it out. For some reason, I’ve been fascinated by the story ever since I saw a documentary several years ago. I couldn’t sleep afterward. Then again, I have pretty bad claustrophobia, so it touches a nerve with me.
