Other than Zavvi and HMV any British record shop chains left?

The title pretty much says it all. Are Zavvi and HMV the only music chains left in the UK?

Well, for those that sell music, you’d put in WH Smiths, Woolworths as well as the supermarkets… But since Fopp went bust, I can’t think of any others…

Fopp’s not bust. They’re reopened, but only in limited locations. I know there’s one on Rose Street (behind Jenner’s) in Edinburgh.

What about Virgin?

Virgin became Zavvi…

Fopp is now owned by HMV and has about 8 stores IIRC.

And now it’s looking like HMV could be finished.

Yesterdays game, innit. Book chains next, I presume.

High street rents dropping, and still dying.

High street rents don’t drop. The property industry made sure of that – most commercial leases feature Upward Only Rent Reviews. If you want to know why our high streets are dying, that’s a good place to start.
