On Sunday, we took the maglev (magnetic levitation) train in Shanghai. It runs from Longyang Road subway station out to Pudong Airport, about 30 kilometers (18 1/2 miles) in 7 minutes. I believe that’s the fastest my wife or I have ever traveled on land. Info on it here. (It says 7 minutes 20 seconds, but I’m sure I timed it at 7 minutes flat.)
“The train can reach 350 km/h (220 mph) in 2 minutes, with a maximum speed in normal operation of 431 km/h (268 mph).”
