Our summer vacation - A Dutch MMP

Hi everyone! Glad some are feeling better. Hope everyone starts to perk up soon.

Hermits? I haven’t thought of hermits in YEARS. They used to make wonderful ones at the convenience store in Michigan. Share the recipe, Shasta?

How is Scottish Darling these days, Haze? For some reason I was thinking about her the other day and forgot to ask then.

I’ll have some bread, LiLi.

Which, I guess, means that I should have some dinner. Wound up eating out for lunch today, so I guess I’ll have the packed NOL for dinner.

Back later…

GT

Sure! I kind of throw stuff in a bowl and call it good, though, so bear with me. Most of these measurements are approximate:

Hermit Cookies

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup firm packed dark brown sugar
2 eggs
2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
~ 2 cups raisens
~ 1 cup nuts - I used walnuts, but sometimes use pecans or a mix of both

Erg. Well, standard cookie building rules apply! Stir your shortening and sugar together first, add eggs one at a time, throw your flour, baking powder, salt and spices into another bowl and mix well, add wet mix to dry, fold in the raisens and nuts, drop heaping spoonfuls onto a baking sheet (mine was ungreased, but they are nonstick pans), bake for ~10 mins at 350.

Monch monch monch.

like so many other cat owners, I address Smokey by whatever name comes to me (since it never matters to the cat anyway) and came up with “I have a purrpuss in life…” (get it? purpose/purr-puss? Oh, never mind)

Melatonin kickin’ in. Nitey Nite Y’all!

Whew, finally home. The commute was pretty sucky because it seems everyone has forgotten how to drive in the rain.

We live in Washington state for Og’s sake! It rains here all damn winter. Buncha STOOPIT people on the roads today, I swear. Actually, I did a lot of swearing under my breath.

I got stuck behind assholes who were doing 15 miles under the speed limit in a 35 MPH zone. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I could not get around them either.

Anyway, deeeeeeep breath time…breathe…breathe…

Shasta, I would be most pleased to receive some of your samples. My e-mail is in my profile. E-mail me and we’ll work out payment arrangements, etc.

rigs, I’m sorry you had a bad day.

FCM, I’m glad you made a doctor appointment. I hope it’s something that’s easily fixed.

**Pie, ** I too dislike Sam’s Club. Costco is much, much better. Um, who was the first mumper was admonished this week? What did I miss? I’m full of “huh?” I hope I’m not the one who irked you.

rosie, I hope you continue to feel better.

Hi Beebs, I miss you.

I have a new alcoholic drink for those of you who imbibe:

2 parts Pearl Blueberry Vodka
2 parts cranberry juice
2 parts Sprite or Seven-Up

It’s very yummy and light!

I should think about getting dinner going.

Well, there isn’t really a Costco around here. The closest one is about an hour away.

That would be VBob who was warned.

And no, it wasn’t you or any other mumper that has been bugging me as of late.

Well, I’m glad to read I haven’t irked you.

Hmmm, an hour away to Costo? I guess I could understand not wanting to drive all that way.

taxi, I didn’t link to the article, but it seems there’s a pit thread about nosey parkers who seem to think that because someone remains childless, she is less of a woman. What utter bullshit. People need to MTOB.

I was told I couldn’t have children, so having my daughter was quite surprise. Up until I found out I was pregnant, I was content with the idea that I wouldn’t be a mother. I didn’t want children, and in fact, thought that they were all brats.

Now, having had them, I wouldn’t change the life I’ve had, but if had remained childless, I would have been content as well.

Three down, two to go.

SpecialOne and Rosie, sorry that you’re not feeling well, but I think SO is feeling some better now, which means that Rosie should be getting the healing vibes I’m sending her way soonish.

And healing vibes being sent to FCM as well, and hoping that your doctor visit goes well!

I kept hoping that it was Thursday evening, but alas it’s just Wednesday. LOL

Thanks for the good wishes, btw, Doggio; I am finally feeling more myself today.

FCM’s mention of Bad Chinese made me want some, so Complicated & Toy Roommates and I went to Cramped Buffet for dinner. When we came back, we had a surprise.

PETER KILLED THE OTHER MOUSE!

He’s never killed a mouse before! I had him trained to leave my gerbils alone, but it’s been four years since I had any rodent pets and Peter figured out that we didn’t want the mouse. WOWCrack Roommate confirmed that Peter did it; he came home just in time for the denouement. When we found the mouse, Peter tried to run away because he hopped up on the counter to catch the little bastard. He was very confused when we started praising him.

My cat is a good cat. He got a piece of chicken and a Pill Pocket and lots of rubbin’s. Tomorrow he will get cat cream (half-n-half).

We watched *1776 * tonight - the full version on DVD. First time I’ve seen this version, and I love it! I love it anyway - it’s such a humanizing look at history.

**FCD ** got home around 9 - 2 more late nights training his replacement. He’s a better person than I would have been - his last 3 days of work and they require him to work till 8 doing turnover. sheesh. Anyway, next week, he and I commute together - yay.

And I’m about to go to bed. Kisses!! Huggs! Nighty-night!!

I told Friedo to “Golf Foxtrot Yankee” (exact quote) in another MPSIMS thread, and got my weenie wacked for it.

Pie said another Doper irked her, not a Mumper. I piped up to ask if it was me just to be cheeky.

Bobbio? Cheeky? Never! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay for dead mouse!

Thanks for the recipe, Shasta! I’ll PM it to McUne so that she can put it in the blog.

No beach volleyball?! Are we sure this is the Olympics? Gymnastics exhibition or something. Entertaining, at least.

Need to get to work planning my vacation…

Mr. Lissar survived putting Nat to bed. On his own. Heavens. Great! Okay, forty minutes of Tragedy and Despair, but still, Great!
Bedtime. Night, all

Oh, I see. Hmm, there’s more I want to say, but I don’t want any of my privates whacked. You’re such a big sweetheart, I can’t believe that something wasn’t warranted for you to have made such a comment. No, I didn’t go search.

Excellent, LiLi!!! Gotta share the wealth…

Sounds like he’s continuing to sleep better, isn’t he? Just looked at your blog and he looks so cute! Also, the bread looked yummy.

That reminds me…can someone post a link to Mahna’s blog? I thought I’d saved it, but can’t find it. I was thinking it would be nice if McUne included it in the links on the Mumper’s blog. Would that be OK with you, Mahna?

Bed soon- taking the kids and one my son’s friends to the beach tomorrow… wish me luck!!!

Should be a gorgeous day!

I need recipe suggestions. I cleaned out the fridge tonight and nothing in there was over 2 years old, yay me! Anyway, I found the rum raisins again. It’s about a cup of raisins and some walnuts that have been stored in rum or possibly brandy? and some spices for a while. They’re perfectly cromulent, but I can’t remember what I was going to use them for. I thought that surely Mumpers would have a recipe or 2 for drunken raisins.

There were big, puffy piles of batting floating around on the freeway this evening, along with some smashed up particle board. The fluff went on for about a mile. It looked like feathers at first and everyone got to test their braking and evasive maneuvers. How many times do people have to be told to strap everything down, especially when you’re going on the freeway?

Heck, I’m about an hour and a half (less on a day with no traffic) away from all the chain stores. Like Target. Also Costco (which is both better than Sam’s, and doesn’t make me feel like I’m supporting Evil when I go there – I’ve got major issues with Walmart). Eighty miles if I want to go to Target. What with gas prices, I haven’t gone down there in nearly three months. I’m planning on doing some shopping in Boise when I go down there…in October.

Yeah, I’m off the beaten path. It doesn’t bother me, though.

Poor Mr. Taters isn’t feeling so well. He said he feels like he’s coming down with the flu. His tummy hurts and he feels completely wrung out. Poor guy…

I told him to go to bed, but he wants to wait until 9:00 or so. I hope he feels better by tomorrow.

Hooray, I have Himself and myself all fully kitted out for my son’s wedding next month! I went out today and shopped, and in spite of hitting four different stores I found not one single item I’d even take into a dressing room–it was horrible! So I went to our local Goodwill store and found a fabulous 100% silk sport coat lined with rayon in deep black, a light green dress shirt, a gorgeous green/grey/black geometric patterned silk tie and charcoal dress slacks for Himself, all of it for under 35 bucks! W00t! The coat is a tiny bit wide in the shoulders and a smidgen long in the sleeve, but I think I’m going to have it altered because it’s beautiful–it’s single breasted and a lean cut, perfect for Himself’s build.

Then I came home, took some Aleve for the tension headache the unsuccessful shopping gave me, then went online and ordered this dress for $28, it’s rayon and just my kind of dress. Then my daughter came over and we found some shoes–I decided on these. I think that looks suitably mother-of-the-groom yet comfortable, and the colors are just right for me. While we were at it, we looked at shoes for my daughter, who’s a bridesmaid. She’s wearing this dress, and although she did her level best to avoid it, the bride is making her put a latte colored sash on it, blurf. We’re hoping we can get a dog to use it for a play toy or something! Anyway, she decided she wanted silver shoes to go with, so after scoping a few different ones she’s going with these, because they’re kind of busy to offset the simplicity of the dress and also have a kind of retro Candie’s kind of look to them. Also, if she HAS to wear the latte sash, the wooden heels should go with that nicely, at least until she can ditch the thing after the ceremony. She’s also going to look for a nice shawl in case the weather gets chilly, always a possibility in Oregon in September up on Mt Hood…

I am VERY glad to have all that out of the way, especially in such an inexpensive manner–this is great!
