Furthermore, if you participate in a certain activity, such as a pick up sport, then some of the people participating in that activity expect you to be good at it, rather than just playing for fun. I don’t know if it’s just at my college, but I heard that several people would rather play with someone who can “hit the ball over the net” or “drain a 3 pointer in basketball”.

This describes participating in, literally, any activity ever.

Old people playing bocce or mah-johg can be just as cutthroat as millennials playing foosball or Uno.

Certain games, such as Uno, still requires some strategy, but sometimes, you may have to rely on luck if you want to win at anything.
