Out of the Darkness resolution

I started a RPG in this forum last June-ish, and we sort of let it slide around January. Interest was flagging, and GMing it was getting to be too much of a burden. But I hate to leave everyone hanging, so here is a wrap-up of the plot. If you don’t want to know, then stop reading…

Just as King Miginath passed away, leaving a power vacuum in the Kingdom of Kaldor, five men were seen heading east over Naniom Bridge. Four of them woke up in a cave sometime later, with their memories erased. Why?

Miginath lived a long life, much longer than his chronic poor health would indicate. He also became very reclusive. At around this time, people started disappearing from around the kingdom. The Baron of Kobing became concerned, thinking that the king might have in some way purchased unnatural life, and was possibly eating souls to sustain himself. This would be an unthinkable prospect for Kaldor and Clan Elendsa. Such evil, if this were true, could not be allowed to flourish. But how to be so sure?

One would need the services of a priest to find out. The Baron knew a few, but few he could really trust. His best bet was the Archbishop himself. They formed a little conspiracy to find out, and their investigation proved that the king’s unlife was a high probability. They decided to exorcise the evil out of him, which would have the unfortunate side effect of killing the old man. This would be risky business indeed, as regicide is a very serious crime. Not even men of high birth, nor their families, could escape punishment for such a crime.

In order for their plan to work, Miginath’s crypt would have to be blessed. If the Archbishop could gain entry to the royal castle, that’s something that he could do. But who would do the actual killing? The Baron wasn’t trusted enough to get close enough to the king. But the Sheriff of Semeth was. He was brought into the conspiracy as well.

How to protect one’s family from harm after committing such a foul deed? One could commit suicide, but there are priests who know how to speak with the dead. No, one must find a way to forget such a deed entirely. The best way to avoid a Truthsense ritual is to simply not know the truth.

That’s where the Earl of Osel came into play. It was his job to disappear himself and travel south, to Melderyne, the Wizard’s Isle, to fetch a mage who could make such a thing happen.

And so it all went down. Arrangements were made to put Princess Meliem on the throne, and the dark deed was done.

This presented a problem for the mage, however. Powerful people would demand his head. Worse, the Mage’s Guild would be very unhappy. One does not raise the ire of the Mage’s Guild unless one wants to be turned into something… unnatural.

So he beefed up his forgetting spell so that the conspirators would not only forget the illegal act, they’d forget everything.

OK. So, NAF was in charge of crypt-blessing.
Glee was the sheriff; he killed the old man.
I was in charge of getting the mage.
The whole thing was Santo’s plan.
The fifth guy was the mage, and we went out to a cave so he could do his horrible rituals in solitude?

So who was that lady, and what did she do to Santo?
Was she the Stalker? Was the king the Stalker?

Yep, yep, yep, yep, and yep.

The lady was just some hippie chick out for a stroll. She got “infected” by an undead baddie, and spread her infection to Santo. The theory is that the king was also infected.

Whether he actually was is a matter of speculation. If he wasn’t, well, then… your bad.
