We reached that point (at least for Mengele) quite a while ago. I took history in the 1970’s. I only know who Mengele was because I read some book with stories about various evil folks, and I only knew Eichmann’s name (who I confess I sometimes get confused with Mengele - I thought M had been brought to justice but he apparently died a relatively free man) because of Reader’s Digest story about his capture.
I’m certain a lot of that is because I am white and raised as a Catholic - there wasn’t the visceral connection to the Holocaust which would keep monsters like them more in memory.
American Taliban can be the blanket term that encompasses the entire magat culture. Y’all Queda and Vanilla ISIS are the foot soldiers: abortion clinic bombers, coal rollers, the treasonous assholes who stormed the Capitol, etc.,etc…

I posted somewhere in ATMB a few weeks ago that quoted text messes up MathJax stuff. Take another closer look: It’s more messed up than what you describe.
This was definitely being done, not by one person, but by at least a dozen people, at a company my company acquired. Not two numbers but thousands and thousands of numbers. They’d multiply the numbers on a calculator for Price X Quantity to get “Extended Cost” and then add those down into subtotals for categories and “Grand Totals”. All the adding was done on ten-key calculators and the “tapes” were kept as records.
Then the big boss’ Executive Admin would create a summary spreadsheet by typing in the “Grand Totals” from each department manager’s reports into her spreadsheet.
To make matters worse, if the Department Managers did not like the total cost, they would just type in a more acceptable number that was within budget. 100 + 50 + 75 = 200 was just fine for them.
When I converted all this to a multi-user database they were royally pissed at the lack of flexibility. Some math Nazi was requiring that the total projected cost be the sum of the costs of the individual items they plan to purchase, regardless of whether this was higher or lower than budget!
How ironic. I have an old “retailers trade” magazine that shows how it is feasible to create false tapes by manually pulling the tape up and down as the calculator prints.
Back to the topic: I tried a white pages search for people named MENGELE. More hits than I expected. Either these people are just stubborn enough to want to keep their family name - and don’t care that well has been poisoned, or they are (even worse) changing their names.

I know that the Catholic church was in some ways also complicit with the Nazis. Good example of how that often doesn’t save complicit groups, either.
But didn’t they generally have to do something to piss off the Nazis first, like say something critical of them or their actions? Merely being a catholic wouldn’t earn you a ticket on a train to the camps, like it would for Jews, Romani, and homosexuals.
