Over 5,000 historic cylinder recordings available online

http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/

Too bad the searching and browsing mechanisms seem to be broken, so there’s no way to actually listen to them… Hopefully this will be fixed soon, or maybe I’m just doing something wrong.

Either we’re doing the same wrong thing, or yes, it’s broken. :frowning:

I found this site on Slashdot last night. I went to the site and clicked on the browser function. The titles did come up, but it was getting late so I didn’t listen to anything. My guess is that they’ve been Slashdotted.

What I don’t get is why a bunch of codeheads (is there anybody else on Slashdot?) would want to listen to historic cylinder recordings.

It’s another example of how “modern” technology comes to the rescue of “old” technology.

Omigod, that is so bookmarked. Thanks!

It seems to be working well enough now: I’ve spent the last half-hour listening to various cylinders.

My pleasure! I had you in mind when I made this thread, I seem to recall you posting a link to a similar page that had some MP3s from cylinders.
