Yes, this is an important thing to note. You drive up to the pump and wait until the attendant is done working the till inside the store selling cigarettes, pop and chicken fingers, then they come out and start the pump on your car, then go back and man the till inside, selling beer and sausage on a stick, then come back and take the hose out of your car and finish with you. The whole process just takes longer than self serve.
There really isn’t an extra job created by not letting you pump your own gas, it just seems like there would be. One of the people working inside comes out to pump your gas and spends the rest of their time working at the counter inside. To say that millions of jobs would be created by outlawing self serve gas in all the other states seems dubious to me, based on my experience as an Oregonian.
