Overclocking question + CPU/components temp monitoring programs?

I can’t find one… I’m trying to see how much I can overclock my computer, as I’m going to be buying a new processor in just a few months. It’s an AMD Sempron 3000+ (Barton), which, according to my research, can run at extraordinarily high temperatures. (But I don’t really know how to do it… is it as easy as going into the BIOS?)

So, I’m looking to see how hot it’s running now, because my room is absurdly cold, and I’ve got a huge case with 4 fans. I’m gonna see how fast I can get it going and max out at 55 degrees or so. But I can’t check my temp (conveniently, and from Windows.)

      • Speedfan is one free program widely used that includes temp monitoring: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
…I don’t know if Speedfan integrates video card monitoring or not. Often the videocard drivers contain the ability to monitor and display the temperature.
  • Motherboard Monitor used to be a popular program but it has not been updated in quite some time now. It still works and is still available, but there are no good config files for many newer motherboards so if you try it and your temps read drastically wrong or not at all then you have to search online to see how the sensors should be set.

  • As for overclocking, different motherboards have different capabilities they allow for this. Most require you to set voltages and multipliers in the BIOS, where some now have runtime programs for this purpose.

If you are interested in overclocking, a good place to learn how to do it with various CPU’s and motherboards is here.

It’s a general info thread in a computer forym. Also try the overclockers forums for info or questions.

basically, the main hassle in trying to overclock is your motherbaord. Some (like mine- the Abit NF7-V2) is super easy to overclock. All I have to do is go into the BIOS and I can change the multiplier or FSB. Some motherboards require you to do this with jumpers.

So yeah, get that speedfan program, and make sure to check the temps when your CPU is laoded. In fact, run it, and then run taht CPU test program you posted in IMHO, and then check your temps.

Well, I did those suggestions (after recklessly playing around with CPU clock up to 180… I can’t adjust FSB or multiplier from the BIOS), and ran that benchmark program. My mobo is running at 28 deg, and my CPU at 46.

Try this place, lots of freeware links.
