Overused movie locales (specific or general)

This one is sort of a mild pet peeve of mine but you can add others as you like.

-The Building Tower Under Construction-

Seems like this is a favorite locale for action movie directors and I’m getting real tired of seeing it. When in doubt as to where to stage an action scene us the ol’ office tower under construction. Spiderman 3 and more recently Dark Knight both had em and it’s just so been-there-done-that since Bruce Willis ran around barefoot in Die Hard.

Some sort of throne room where the cliched sword fight between the hero and villain is had.

Ah, like the streets of San Fran? Can’t have a chase scene without those hills.

Actually come to think of it, I can’t recall this one being used lately.

There’s always the good old Deserted Theme Park / Fairgrounds. Haven’t seen it in a bit, though.

Multi-level parking structures, for car chases, clandestine meetings and scenes where a lone woman is being followed by a predator.

Tenement rooftops, for the mandatory chase scene.

NYC… seems almost every movie these days has a scene somewhere in manhattan

And have you noticed that they’re always empty?

The dry, scrubby hills in the back hills of Hollywood.

Steam-filled alleyways.

Dive bars filled with neon Budweiser signs.

The really elaborate dance club filled with 90’s-era ravers and cool villains.

Monument Valley

Every Western ever made was set there.

And it seems that every other movie ever made is set here.

Any ocean.
Outer Space.

Actually, it was almost exclusively John Ford’s location; it became so closely identified with his movies that most later directors have avoided it (although there are of course exceptions).

Gorn Rock

The kitchen table.

Fruit carts!
