Ok, so a friend of mine tells me either Kerry Packer or Rupert Murdoch (Australian media barons) had a version of the Bible written for them. Apparently the name satan was substituted for the word Jesus on at least two occasions. Interestingly he claims the six people who wrote the bible for Packer/Murdoch were all struck deaf, dumb and blind, as it says somewhere in the “real” bible regarding those who would seek to rewrite it.
He claims he saw a documentary on it. Has anyone heard anything about these events or is it crap?
A little light Googling (“Murdoch + Bible”) throws up this page about Murdoch. Aside from their apparent endorsement of Jack Chick, the writer of it seems rather hung up with both Murdoch’s involvement with Catholicism and his role as publisher of the NIV edition of the Bible. Following the links leads to the site’s take on the NIV edition: complaints about “Lucifer” being translated as “Jesus”.
Other Dopers will be better placed to say whether any of this has any basis in fact. But it appears that your friend is parroting a version of this.
