Packers propose ban on tush push

I have but I wish I could remember when. Maybe Atlanta? The Eagles seem fine but players have been injured on other teams trying to replicate it. Kelce has been very honest about how much it hurt and how much he hated that play. He was always on the bottom of 1,000 pounds of people.

Also not many teams have a quarterback that squats 600 pounds. I think Hurts is a large part of the reason why that works. Put almost any other QB behind that line and it’s not as effective and they might get broken.

I think this is the real reason that the Packers are against the Tush Push.

That could certainly be a factor in the opposition to this play. Many teams still have a big fullback though, and if this play isn’t banned them many more might put one on the roster. If you had someone like Marshawn Lynch on your team you wouldn’t hesitate to use him for this. Teams could even have a big defensive lineman specialize in this role.

The defense against the tush push is to not allow the opposing team to get to the one-yard line in the first place. Outlawing it would be like outlawing layups in basketball.

There’s a difference between hurt and injured. It may not be fun for the guy right in the middle, but Centers aren’t missing time because of it.

The Kollmann video directly addresses this and on that point he’s 100% right. Hurts leg strength is wildly overrated. On a large percentage of plays his feet are off the ground. Hurts is not pushing the pile even when he is on the ground, he’s looking for holes. And while Hurts may be the 99th percentile, it’s not like the other QBs out there are weaklings.

The Eagles win on these plays up front. Hurts and his pushers aren’t going to be successful with other OLs.
