PAGING QUEEN BRUIN and any other Southern California Dopers

Reporting from Carson (Baja Compton) with nothing more than a fine coating of ash all over everything.

An article in the LA Times explained that no matter which way the wind is blowing there is a sort of funnel effect that draws smoke down to Long Beach. Well, Long Beach is about two miles from me, and all that smoky air sort of cruised through my neighborhood on the way to LB.

Sunset was spectacular yesterday. Just a glowing red ball slowly sliding down to the ocean.

Encinitas is on the coast. it’s next to Carlsbad. The Witch Creek fire in near Escondido. It’s actually closer to Poway. BIL in in Palomar Med Center, in Escondido. He said it’s pretty safe there, so far.
I lived in Vista, for 10 years, so I know the area pretty well.

I’m quite familiar with where Encinitas and Escondido are. I’m also 100% positive that a portion of Rancho Santa Fe, the “one town away” I mentioned, has burned.

I understand, but Rancho Santa Fe is one town away from Escondido, not Encinitas. It’s on I-15. Here’s a map of the fires.

Escondido is to the EAST of Rancho Santa Fe. Encinitas is to the WEST. fetus is correct.

Encinitas is also about 5 miles closer to Rancho Santa Fe, according to Google Maps.

In case what I meant is not entirely clear, both Escondido and Encinitas are next to Rancho Santa Fe, but on opposite sides. The Witch fire was large enough to burn all the way through parts of Escondido, through RSF and was nearing Encinitas (some parts of which were evacuated) when the winds changed. My BIL lives in a ‘safe’ part of Encinitas and we were all watching the fire very closely.

I humbily beg your pardon. You’ve been right all along, and I was wrong.

I was corrected by my friend who lives in Encinitas today. She called to say everyone in the office escaped unscathed. The had to close the office on Monday because of smoke.
