pain in the roof of the mouth

For my entire life, I’ve experienced intermittent pain on the roof of my mouth when eating food. The pain only occurs if I’m trying to eat something in the morning, and usually the immediate cause is toast. The pain is so intense, that I have to stop eating entirely. This does not happen often.

A conversation with my sister and her daughters revealed that my sister has the same problem, but her daughters thought we were nuts.

So, is this pain common? Or are my sister and I genetic freaks? What is it, exactly?

(I tried to search for prior discussions about this, but couldn’t get the search results below 1200 threads. Sorry if this is a repeat - I’m guessing not, though.)
