Painful lump on tailbone

Not yet. I’ll go today if I can drive myself or tomorrow if I need to get a ride.

I’m so exhausted though that it’s hard to even think about getting ready and going. Every single time I go to sleep I wake up 45-60 minutes later like clockwork, even on Vicodin. If it’s not my tailbone pain that’s waking me up, it’s my hips. Laying on my sides is the only position I can be in, and hip joints do not like you to do that for days at a time.

Yeah, I don’t think the antibiotics are helping. At first I thought they might be because I didn’t take any pain medication for 8 hours and I wasn’t dying, but then I started dying again and the swelling is worse. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow morning and they better help me! And I have to work all day Sunday so I don’t know how/if that’s supposed to happen :frowning: I called a nurse hotline last night and they said after it’s lanced you definitely have to take narcotic painkillers for a while. I can’t really be at work like that I don’t think. My boss seriously might fire me if I miss, because apparently missing 3 days of work in a year is just unacceptable. Even though I’ve said yes all of the many, many times she’s asked me to cover her shifts.

Anyway, sorry, I know this is not interesting, but I really have nothing else to do but lay on my side and whine.

Actually, though it may not seem like it, having the swelling increase is a good (though painful) thing because it may drain on its own or be more ready for draining tomorrow. Can you call the doctor today and see if maybe they can work you in? My sincere sympathies on your pain.

StG

Do you work Monday?

Thanks **StG ** I hope they can drain it tomorrow, although I’m still scared! I can’t go today though because I don’t have a ride and I’m not in any position to drive. I hope it’s able to be drained tomorrow, seems like it is coming up more to the surface and/or getting bigger. If not, at very least I’ll get some more pain meds.

Munch, no, I don’t work Monday. I do work Tuesday but only for a few hours in the evening.

If it drains you don’t have to rush to the doctor or anything. Stand in the shower to wash it off and put a big glob of anti-biotic ointment on it. Mine would drain and dry up pretty quickly.

My best to you in all this, I know how you feel right now. It’ll all be over soon.

Yep. My pilonidal cyst was drained, then 18 months later went in for voluntary surgery to have it removed. Logic was that I didn’t want it coming back once I went away to school. Surgery was extremely unpleasant but I’m sure its better than it was 25 years ago. My buttcrack is scarred from the surgery but it was a permanent fix to the issue. The draining, the only thing that hurt was the shot.

If I lived near you, I would drive you myself! And take you out for ice cream afterward. Why can’t your mom take you?

If you know now that you might miss Monday, call your boss today and give her a heads up. Don’t just not show up. That is the kiss of death. One thing if this were a real emergency, but if she asks you, “How long have you known about this?” you’re cooked.

I wish you well & hope you see the Dr soon!

I’m sorry that I don’t seem to have anything useful to add, but this thread “Painful lump on tailbone” was directly under the “What motivates you to perform oral sex?” thread, which just seemed so very wrong…

I’m kind of surprised they let you have it removed after 18 months with it not recurring. I would want to do that if possible, just to make sure this never happens again, but they’ll probably say no anyway. I have Medicaid and that affects the care you get. I’m glad to hear the lancing wasn’t too bad though. Did they give the shot off to the side or right in the middle of the cyst? Because right in the cyst sounds like torture!

Thanks for the thought  My mom had to work today. She tried to get me to go yesterday but I didn’t want to. I would be fine to wait until tomorrow except I just took my last Vicodin so now I don’t know what I’m going to do

My boss doesn’t care what the reason is or how much notice she gets or anything, she seriously doesn’t let us take any time off. It’s ridiculous, but I need the job. I already told her about it on Tuesday anyway, but from her reaction I may as well have said I might need time off to go on a meth binge or something.

Haha well that’s gross.

I have no idea how they shot up the cyst, I wasn’t looking at it. As for the surgery, my mom worked at the hospital, so I don’t know how she set it up, but she did. Sorry couldn’t be more help.

Another vote for get it removed if you can - I had a pilonidal cyst removed decades ago, and it has never bothered me again (I do have a gnarly scar there, though, which I never see so I totally forget it’s there).

If it’s a really deep cyst, couldn’t they drain it with a needle?

Catastrophe averted. Still, there is that screaming throbbing thing on your butt that you need to be rid of. Is it gone yet? C’mon, you’ve dumped BFs faster than this…

I just got home from the ER again. Without any pain pills left (I had already taken the max level of Aleve for the day so I couldn’t even take that) I could not take the pain for another 12+ hours until my doctor appointment. OMFG it hurt so bad. I was crying and begging the doctor to stop, and I NEVER carry on like that around strangers, not while giving birth or anything. It was the squeezing and feeling around that was so bad. The Lidocaine shot was fine, probably just because I was on Dilaudid.

Still hurts a lot, but at least now it’s healing, not getting worse. And the doctor did tell me to follow up with a surgeon, so maybe I will even end up having it removed.

Hope I’m making any sense at all, I’m way out of it. Thanks you guys for humoring my little freakout

Its ok. We’re here for you. The hurt will lessen over time and, given the circumstances, I think you were reasonable & fine. Here’s hoping that you get well soon and that tomorrow will be much less of a pain in the ass.

That sounds like a sucko place to work. My advice stands, however. YOU be the better person and treat her with respect she may not deserve. Act like it’s a Real Workplace and tell her ahead of time like a responsible adult whether she cares or not. Don’t let her low standards dictate yours. (That advice goes for everything in life BTW.)

Give us a doc’s report when you get back. Otherwise, have a good day, honey, and I’ll see you at dinner. I like being your mom.

Congrats Blackberry, your initiation is now complete. Welcome to the club!

I hope this never happens to you again. Removal itself isn’t pleasant. I’ve had cysts removed from other places, but not somewhere I had to sit on. I may have been lucky that no recurrence was as bad as the first so I can’t tell you whether or not removal is worth it. I just hope for now you’re all better in a day or two and don’t have to go through it again at all.

BTW: I hope this happens to your boss. Yes mods, I’m wishing harm on someone. Go ahead and hit me.

Blackberry - Was the ER doc able to drain it, then? If so, you should have significant reduction in pain, I think.

StG

StG, yeah, see I knew I was leaving something out in my narcotic state. I skipped the part about how they did decide to drain it. The ER doctor did it, so I guess they were just talking about the actual surgery when they said they don’t do it there. They gave me an intramuscular shot of Dilaudid (ow!), inserted an IV line after several tries, that was used a total of ONE TIME for some more Dilaudid, and gave me a couple tablets of oxycodone. They were just all over the place, but having it hurt THAT much even with all those painkillers makes me REALLY glad I got it in the ER, because I don’t think the doctor’s office would have given me anything.

They also gave me some even stronger antibiotics.

Yeah, my boss is being so mean! She acts all sweet as long as everything is going her way, but as soon as you have to go to the ER, she hates you. I think I’ll be okay to work at least a half shift on Sunday though and then my sister can cover the other half. She works there too but she never wants to cover my shifts…but unlike the jerk boss, she actually understands that sometimes things happen that are beyond your control.

ThelmaLou, my mom ended up staying there with me the whole time last night, after me trying to convince her again and again earlier in the day that I really didn’t need her there at all and she should just drop me off and go home and sleep. She finally said she understood, but when it came down to it she would not leave. Moms :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for all the well wishes

Suggestion: lie on your side with a couch cushion against your back to keep you from rolling onto it while you sleep.
