Painting Concrete Statuettes

I would like to paint a statuette of Father Christmas and was wondering what type of paint would be best to use. Did a GOOGLE and found a site that says to use patio paint, but I was wondering about the face which will need to be pink, and other colors I may have to mix?

Have any of y’all ever done this and what did you use? Any other tips are greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Quasi

I’m pretty sure ordinary gloss paint will be good; it doesn’t come off a concrete floor when you spill it.

Wash the pieces down well with vinegar and water solution and allow a bit of lime leaching to take place and then allow it to dry well.

Seal the item (remember to seal the bottom where moisture will seep in).

Housepaint acrylic paints (not artist acrylics) should work well. Make sure you check their lightfastness otherwise they will fade over time. Try adding water to make a stain that the concrete will absorb for a subtle look, or dribble into crevices for a darkened look or lightened look to add depth to the piece.

You will then near to reseal the completed piece so water damage does not occur. These are all water based paints, so you should be careful what you seal it with. Water based sealants will work better, but will also wear off quicker.

If your area goes through great temperature variations through the day, you will also likely find out that the statue will shrink and expand which will also affect the condition over the years.

In summer, keep this guy out of the heat and light (to preserve the colors).
