Painting reproductions that are cast off the original?

I only have a vague idea of this, so I’m just looking for some clues. Several years ago (maybe ten), I saw a reproduction of a painting that was “better” because it tried to reproduce the brush strokes. IIRC, they had taken a mold of the original Impressionist piece, made a cast of it, and then printed the color on top or something. I don’t really know how it would work exactly but my attempts to Google it have failed entirely.

Does this ring a bell for anybody?
