That’s it, that’s the mojo. Just have Palin grab the mic at the first VP debate and have her leer over at Biden and gargle out “Why…So…Serious?”
Every day of this race I miss Hunter Thompson more and more.
Oh, and NurseCarmen? While I agree about the lust for redheads thing, that one is wearing enough orange tinted base makeup that she could be my dad in disguise and nobody would know. Or she could be missing her teeth.
Is this really considered a form of racial insult? I had never heard of this before and I just thought they were wearing them as being symbolic of Florida. I’m sure if you go to a FL Gators game there are a ton of those. I guess what I’m questioning is was this a deliberate insult at Obama or just some guy from FL representing his state?
It’s amazing how often Republicans just coincidentally use racially charged words and images that they’re completely unaware of the implications of. Poor misunderstood bastards.
I don’t think it was a racial slur. It was the Florida delegation who wore the Gator hats, which is a very identifiable mascot unique to the U of Florida, state of Florida and therefore their delegation. The Texas delegation wore cowboy hats… same difference. Putting the action figure of Obama in the gator mouth was tasteless, but without knowing that gentleman personally how do you know it was racial or just a stupid move? I hope you’re not assuming because he is Rep that it was racist, just like the Reps assumed Obama’s lipstick/pig statement was intentional because he is a Dem.
I looked at the picture before I read what it meant. Before reading what DianeG posted I thought some crazy guy from FL wearing a funny hat. And the doll was like any just like things people make up at a lot of sports events or rallies where they draw or make some goofy “sculpture” of a Patriot flogging a Dolphin, or a 49er eating a Seahawk, or a Husky biting a Cougar, etc.
It is now. Don’t worry, just about anything soon will be. The Dems are heading down a bad road with the self-fulfiling prophecy of “Obama is gonna lose becuase of racism, man”.
Back to the lip thing, I’d be upset if I were Palin. Having a pair of red, horribly inflamed labia as a symbol of my candidancy? It just reduces her to a non-substantive gimmick, a punchline that really wasn’t all that original or funny to begin with.
Imagine her giving a speech in front an audience wearing those things. Would she really be able to take herself seriously?
Compare those two things if it makes you feel better, but it’s an enormous pile of bullshit.
Or *nothing *is, and I shouldn’t be so quick to see that as a racist statement just because it has a documented history as a racist statment. I know sometimes that kind of book learnin’ will fuck with a girl’s mind.
That seems an unfair generalization. I’ve lived 50 years in Ohio, Colorado and Georgia, and if you asked me to write out a list of the racially charged words and images I know of, without Googling, alligators and gator bait would not have made the list. I had never heard of it before opening this thread. Now I’m sure you could make the case that someone from Florida SHOULD have, but don’t lump those of us who truly were unaware of any secondary meaning with the people who created the artifacts you linked to. A “documented history” doesn’t mean everyone has studied those documents, by the way…there a whole lot of stuff in the world I have no burning desire to study.
