Palin Resigns as Gov? WTF?

Well, to be fair (or honest, anyway) he didn’t make fun of him (Michael J. Fox) for being ‘too shaky’; he accused him of being extra shaky in a political ad in order to gain sympathy and score points for the election of a Democrat who supports stem cell research.

Not that I care particularly; as I said, I no longer listen to Limbaugh but what’s right is right, and the fact of the matter is that Limbaugh didn’t ‘make fun’ of Fox for being ‘too shaky.’

And here’s an interesting page. It’s on Limbaugh’s site and I found it while Googling for what exactly he did say. It makes several interesting declarations, which I would presume are true since he’s posting them as a matter of record open to all and sundry, including debunkers:

*Fact: I Never “Made Fun” of
Fox or Said He Was “Faking”

Fact: The Missouri Bill is on Cloning, Not Stem Cells

Fact: Stem Cell Research is Legal in Missouri, and Jim Talent Does Not Oppose It

Fact: Ben Cardin (D-MD), Who Fox Did An Ad for, Voted AGAINST Stem Cell Research

Fact: Michael J. Fox Admitted on ABC “I Haven’t Read It” When Asked About the Missouri Amendment to Legalize Human Cloning That He Mischaracterized as a Stem-Cell Bill in the Ad!*
He goes on to say:

“Michael J. Fox Admits Not Taking
Meds Before Some Public Appearances”
(and provides video of Fox admitting it)

"Fox Also Wrote it in
His Book “Lucky Man”
(and provides excerpt)

Now, none of this should be construed as a defense of Limbaugh nor a condemnation of Michael J. Fox, but as they say, facts is facts, and the fact of the matter is that your comment in this regard is misleading and wrong. I would think that Limbaugh says enough that he could legitimately be criticized for without your having to make it look like he’s said things and behaved in ways that he hasn’t.

Hmmm. If a state investigative body undertakes an investigation for corruption against a state governor, are they required to advise the Feds?

“To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as ‘fact’ that Governor Palin resigned because she is ‘under federal investigation’ for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation,” Van Flein said in a statement. “This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law.”

I recall this (haven’t seen the video in question, but i’ve read his book (which is pretty good, by the way)) and Fox does certainly admit he doesn’t take meds before some public appearances, because the side effects of the medication would make him more shaky or otherwise affected in the immediacy of taking them - it’s not a case of “take pills, be better” as much as “take pills, suffer through immediate effects, be better in the long run”. So yes, what is claimed here is true; but it is a truth carefully phrased to give rather the opposite impression of the motivation behind the truth. Fox doesn’t not take medication before interviews so he can be more affected and so get more sympathy; he doesn’t take medication so that he can be *less *affected.

Yep, thin skinned. I will stick to my theory as to why she quit.

I would say to Palin here:

You are not the queen, and this is not England. You may indeed be happier living in Honduras where you could shut down any media that posts items against you.

How could anyone think such a thing? There are nuances, rich subtleties in Rush’s doing a spasm dance like a meth freak with malaria. He was probably pointing out the technical distinctions between stem cell research and embryonic stem cell research. This is difficult to get across to a radio audience, so he was attempting to illustrate his point with a sound effect, four hundred pounds of porcine blubber going every which way at once!

And unless I misremember (I was wrong once in '68, when I thought I had made a mistake…), there was something about how Mr. Fox didn’t take meds before interviews because it was the meds that caused the shaking? You didn’t hear about that,** Starv**?

Upon preview, better done by the Good Rev.

At least until the Army gets fed up with her. I can’t imagine that taking too long.

Here’s an article discussing that

Has no one addressed this yet? In what sense was Palin “carried away with ambition”? Does her family pay a price that is greater than the price of families of other candidates? Don’t other candidates have problems with their children? Aren’t their spouses expected to be responsible for dealing with many of the children’s issues?

I seem to remember that the Bush twins had problems with underaged drinking in bars. George H. W. Bush had a son with a cocaine habit and alcohol addiction. Reagan had a split in his family. Should these men have reconsidered running for President? Were they too ambitious? Did their families pay too dear a price. Would the right thing have been to put the family first?

Please spare us the thumb sucking because “the left” isn’t playing by Marquis of Queensbury rules. Even though he’s no longer in it (and was sufficiently agonized about his behavior to apologize for it on his deathbed) we live in a Lee Atwater world. Atwater’s and Rove’s (his student) message? Fairness and civility is for dupes and fools…

Palin “pals around with terrorists”, Limbaugh (Barack The Magic Negro), Fox News (“what’s with the terrorist fist bump?”), that Republican activist Rusty Depass lamely apologizing to “anyone who took offense” in comparing Michele Obama to an escaped monkey from a South Carolina zoo, and my conservative friends and relatives who sent me the relentless emails about Obama being a Muslim, or the clever cartoon about Easter being cancelled- - the White House lawn covered with watermelons instead of eggs (get it???) show that there is plenty of disgusting pettiness to go around with most of it coming from “the right”.

As for Palin, I say “good bye and good riddance.” She can dish it out but she sure can’t take it and I think that’s why she quit. She’s a lousy, thin-skinned politician - a small town girl with a small mind. She’s flaky, flighty, random, and way too mavericky to be trusted in any position of power and she’s already been promoted past her level of competence.

IMHO the deluge of slime levied against her has been totally unprecedented. But if she cannot handle it, then she’s done the right thing in quitting.

“Who are these other ‘honorable’ quitters that she’s referring to?”

I was touched by her subtle tip-of-the-cap to Lou Gehrig on the 70th anniversary of his famous speech.

After reading her comments I thin at least part of what she says is true. The ethics complaints have made it increasingly difficult for her to be an effective governor. I think the other part of the story is that she believes being in the national spotlight is good for her career. It’s probably true she can make more money by not being governor. She initially raised a lot of money with Sarahpac.

If she’s thinking this somehow will help her political career I think she’s made a mistake. I’m more inclined to believe it’s ultimately a money making move. Whether she runs for elected office or not she can still make a ton of dough being a figure head for “true” conservatives.

This is excessively polite. Sarah’s action is not a mistake, it is a boner of monumental proportions. No sane person would ever give her the chance to resign from high office again, and if she ever choses to run again, that point will be hammered home again and again and again, until even the Republican freaking base gets it!

Look, just because YOU can count doesn’t mean you need to rub it in Sarah’s face.

To be fair, I think that Rush has a hard time understanding the idea of not taking any pill available.

Palin is a point guard keeping her eye on the basket. What more do you need to know? The explanation was clear. Do you think she is a dead fish, going along with the flow? She is a fisherman and knows better. Obviously she has a grasp on all the problems.

Wait, first she’s a point guard, then she’s a dead fish?

Flip-Flopper!

Wait, if it’s still flip-flopping, the fish can’t be quite dead yet.

Maybe it’s pinin’ for the fjords. Or maybe it’s nailed to a perch. Wait, did she say what kind of dead fish she was? Was it a perch?

And in other news:

I can. I have nothing but sympathy for all of Todd and Sarah Palin’s children, and my heart goes out to them in all sincerity.

Having Sarah Palin as a mother is a handicap I wouldn’t wish upon anyone. I hope the grandparents provide some counterbalance for them.

What would her future have been if she stayed while Alaska’s economy goes dumpsterward and her local popularity gets lower and lower? At best that was her likely future as governor.

Leaving now she will claim no responsibility for Alaska’s impending budget collapse and for any of the difficult choices that will need to be made to deal with it. She can leave before her local popularity collapses more. Yeah she will be called a quitter but not by those who love her now. And that core is enough to keep her as some kind of player in the small segment of the national population that currently identifies as Republican, especially those who vote in primaries and who listen to Rush. That’s a small enough universe that her small cadre of Palinista loyalists, her small cult of personality, will still be a force. Or at least so she has concluded.
