Palin Resigns as Gov? WTF?

Well, if you rearrange the letters in ‘Palin Resigns’ you can spell ‘Angler in piss’.

My guess: She’s got a multi-million dollar book contract, and/or Fox News wants to give her a show, and they’re offering big money to her. Mike Huckabee has a show on Fox now, and apparently it’s doing very well.

Quitting the governorship is not the move you make if you’re running for President. My guess is that she’s tired of the constant attacks on her family, she’s not enjoying her job as governor, she doesn’t think she’s got a shot at the presidency, so she’s going to cash in, make some money, do a TV show or write a book, and then figure out where to go from there.

But quitting in the middle of a term as governor is going to haunt her if she tries to run for the Presidency. She should have finished her term. Frankly, I don’t think she’s got a shot at the Presidency anyway. At least not in 2012. Maybe she can pull a Nixon and vanish for 8 years, then show up on the scene again with a bit more gravitas, more gray hair, and more knowledge. But I doubt it. I think she had her shot, and blew it.

I think it might be because her youngest daughter is pregnant. I was watching her speech and I noticed her belly has grown quite a bit from earlier interviews and public appearances. I’m not trying to drag the kids into this, it’s just something I noticed.

I try not to affiliate with any political party, by the way, so this isn’t an attack on Republicans, Conservatives, Alaskans or white people. Just putting that out there for the people who get passionate about these issues.

It’s more complex than that - about 80% of the American public has trained themselves to vote for the guy with a [R] next to their name or a [D]. The “us vs them” partisan mentality becomes so strongly ingrained that it doesn’t matter what the politicians actually do ro say - if they’re on their side, they’ll defend it, if they’re on the other side, they’ll attack it. The Republican leadership could eat a baby on live TV while the democrats try to pass a bill to legalize anal rape on the first tuesday of the month, and you’d still have those 80% voting mindlessly the same way.

So when you have that much support no matter what you do, you don’t actually have to stick to any particular set of principles. And this allows the parties to move away from any sort of conservative/liberal ideals their constituents may want them to follow.

So no, the current leadership of any given political party does not necesarily represent the ideology they espouse. And hence, you can’t necesarily use the failure of a politician or political party to completely discredit a philosophy, unless it’s clear they made a competant, good faith effort to actually execute that philosophy.

I mean - “Bush failed, economic conservatism is clearly bunk” is an absurd statement on the face of it.

That’d add a funny twist to the whole Letterman deal. I hope the father is A-rod.

Do you really think age would help her? The novelty of her being somewhat hot was a big part of her appeal - I say this regretfully since it reflects badly on the populac. She’ll be declining fast.

Bullshit bullshit bullshit.

IF there was something with one of her kids she would be using that little thing like Captain America uses his shield. Hell, she might even tattoo it with the stars and stripes.

That photo sure seems to show that her younger daughter is round in the tummy. I wonder if she is pregnant. I wonder if mommy just found out.

I may be being whooshed, but isn’t that kid like 10?

Isn’t she, like, seven? :dubious:

And if that kid was pregnant she wouldn’t be anywhere near a camera for the next five years.

Oh god I hope not. No matter how badly I want Palin to suffer, how old is that kid? Twelve?

Quick search on Google shows age of onset of puberty is falling with ages as young as 8.

There seems to be a massive simul-post confusion going on. That would be Piper Palin, born in 2001. So she’s 8ish.

I think that’s just a kid with a fat belly. Like many kids have. Seriously doubt there’s yet another pregnancy in that family.

Her face, arms and shoulders don’t match the belly.

Yeah, that’s it. McCain failed because he wasn’t conservative enough, and conservatism didn’t fail, Bush failed it. And yes, the parties as they stand now do have clearly defined principles; the problem is that a lot of people really don’t like the principles of cutting taxes endlessly and hating gays and brown people. That’s not because they’re ingrained to prefer Democrats, since a fair number of them formerly identified as Republicans. Bush ran and won (barely) as a compassionate conservative, and lots of conservatives just loved him. Conservatism is ultimately simply what conservatives believe, and they heralded him as one of their own. Whether you like it or not, Bush was mostly definitely a conservative, and he demonstrated some of the large flaws in that philosophy.

Oh, and by the way, Eisenhower was a moderate Republican, so Bush isn’t the least conservative ever OMGZ.

Did anybody else notice that she was wearing the same outfit Tina Fey wore while lampooning her? On the one hand, I’m glad she’s getting mileage out of clothes the Pubs bought her. On another hand, I see it as a positive thing that she’s wearing stuff more than once. On yet another hand, she has to be completely clueless to lob that to SNL Were she smarter I’d think she realizes that SNL is only reruns until Fall. But I will tune in tomorrow night to see if a Very Special Opening Sketch was tacked onto the rerun.

Upon further review, you’re probably right. I’m just not used to the idea of people using their children in that manner. Guess I’m out of touch.

Disagree. She couldn’t wait until 2010? No, this reeks of desparation. The presser was hastily thrown together, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her so flustered giving a speech. It just doesn’t make a lick of sense. Either she’s tired of national scrutiny and wants out (possible, and I’m somewhat sympathetic if this is true) or there’s a scandal imminent. I don’t mean to sound overly partisan, but at the very least there’s evidence that Palin has abused her authority in the past and she certainly burned a lot of bridges in her home state. And yet, much as I find her personally distasteful, for all the hits she took, I think her star was still rising politically.

I’d wager she can feel the weight of an indictment.

If he’s a conservative because republicans voted for him, then how can you compare the relative conservativeness of different presidents?
