I’d say that was her briefly pulling the communism boogey man finger puppet from her bag of dirty tricks.
Market-based health care rationing is better? That means if you are seriously ill, you live if you have the personal wealth to afford the treatment. Otherwise you die. This is, admittedly the way the world has worked for a long time, but have you heard of the word progress?
Of course you have. Progress, to you, is the enemy.
Why in the world do you think it will shut them up? Dropping it was a stupid concession to the lunatics.
…death, death, death, death, death, death, GOOSE!
The problem Rand Rover appears to be having is attempting parse Sarah Palin’s statements as if they are coherent and consistent, neither of which have been characteristics of many of her recent statements (particularly the public speeches). I’m actually starting to worry about that woman.
I always knew it would come true. Except there’s nothing even remotely funny about this one. When the leaders of the free world are removing perfectly legitimate and honestly helpful legislation from consideration only because of a few of the most moronic, xenophobic, power-hungry extremists in the country, democracy is dead.
President Mountain Dew in 2012! Wooo!
Of course he thinks so. To people of a certain ilk, getting a market-based boot to the head is better than a spa treatment by the government.
At least they haven’t caved on the “Kill Sarah Palin’s Baby” clause.
Luckily for you she clarified exactly what she was talking about on her facebook page later on.
Ah, OK, thanks Fuzzy.
I don’t think it’ll shut that general class of people up. It will, however, remove the most prevalent meme being shouted and mindlessly parroted. It’s now become a major point of contention, as stupid as that is.
More importantly, I don’t see it as a vital issue in health reform. As I said above, it’s tragic that a good part of the bill would be dropped…but if it would help move things along, it’s worth sacrificing. “Art of the possible” and all that…
The, too, the end-of-life counseling reimbursement can always be added to the system in a later legislative session, so it’s not as if it had been killed forever.
So, will you now apologize to all the people you derided about this?
Who did I deride about that? They said palin was talking about that provision and I said I saw only evidence that she was talking about rationing. Fuzzy provided evidence that she was talking about that provision and I thanked him.
Look, I know I’m the boogeyman around here, but not everything I say is deriding someone (a fair amount, yes).
See, when someone implies that a person is passing judgment on them for partisan reasons, when that person’s actually simply basing their assertion on easily-researched evidence, it tends to be good form to admit that you were wrong about that assumption (as well as, you know, not knowing the facts in the first place).
Yeah, 'cause there’s no way they’ll think it’s a strategic victory and move on to something even more dishonest and intellectually bankrupt to try and sabotage the whole thing…
Let’s just hope they don’t find the Soylent Green Provision.
Oh, nice going, Dio! Why do you think its a secret decoder ring?
Yes – it’s so obviously a good thing. Shit – let the Republicans co-sponsor it later on, as they did initially.
Yes, this is a consideration. Again, it’s tragic to drop it. It pisses me off that this idiocy has been accepted as truth, and even more that it’s vaunted politically. However, I don’t think it’s even possible to move on to something “more dishonest and intellectually bankrupt”: you can’t get worse than just making shit up, which is what “death panels” are.
And, clearly, the matter of “try and sabotage the whole thing” isn’t really in question. It’s not a matter of trying or not, it’s just a matter of how to do so.
You can have the bacon, egg and death, the death, bacon, egg, death and death, or the death, bacon, death, egg, death, death, and death . . .
DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH!

Another question for the undecided voter: if someone is cough sentenced to live but dies anyway, what happens then? Do they kill another Unproductive (the newest caste, foreshadowing Gattaca) to even the score, or does an Unproductive move up the line and get to live?
But it won’t help move things along. They’ll just gin up something else.
Right. It’s not about removing things they don’t like. It’s about derailing the whole process.
Wanna bet? They’ll find something else that they can use to drive the fear they’ve instilled in the conservative base…
