Pamelyn Ferdin, a Great ‘Cutie’

I frequently confuse those two. They’re not the same person? :face_with_tongue:

FTR, I don’t think anyone ever thought Fran Drescher was homely. She was always gorgeous, but her voice in The Nanny sort of grounded and siphoned away any hotness there was. The thing is, I don’t even think that was her real voice/accent, or if it was, it was likely seriously exaggerated for TV, but that was what she ended up being famous/notorious for.

I think it was the same voice she used in This Is Spinal Tap, so if it is an affectation, she’s been doing it a while.

It is an exaggeration of her natural voice. But she did basically sound like that, just a little less Queens/Lawn Island IRL.

She sounded the same in UHF from 1989 though perhaps a bit less exaggerated.

I remember the episode of Night Court where lecherous Dan Fielding couldn’t wait to bang her in the broom closet. I coulda gone for a bit o’ that stuff myself!

Fran Drescher talks about her real voice. It’s pretty close to the one she acts with.

And the Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Just to put the thread back on track for a moment, the Star Trek episode with Pamelyn Ferdyn aired on H&I Network this evening. (I realize that doesn’t mean that much these days when you can stream it anytime you want.)

She also has not one, but two Facebook pages - one that focuses on her career and one about her regular life.

Pretty close, but not quite the same- she’s clearly got a recognizable NYC accent of some kind, but she clearly exaggerated it for comic effect on the show- particuarly the nasal-sounding part. Her normal voice doesn’t grate on me, but that “Nanny” one always did.

Why, here’s one now:

Cripes! Here’s the other one:

Give the kid the shaft already!

Eric was in an Emergency! as a kid who made a home made rocket. I wish I could find a video, but we have to imagine his distinctive voice describe how he’s using “oxides of carbon and hydrogen to power the rocket.”

Were they cloning Sheas (this is Stephen)?

You’re preaching to the choir here. It was my buddies who thought/claimed to think she was homely.

I think the characters she played may have been a factor. A lot of boys at that age prefer ‘sweet’ to ‘sassy’.
