Greenland had zombies in my game; they kept their ports, aiport, and hospital open even when they dropped to 0 living inhabitants. Bastards even kept sending ships around the map, even when nobody else had an open port. They were only about 80 days from finding the vaccine when I finished, too.
…of course I have to note, for all the trouble we went through to win, this game has a damn, damn lackluster ending.
Nooooooooooooooo!
Everything else on the planet infected, and Argentina just closed their borders. Damn, I hope a ship gets into their port before they close it. If not, I guess the world is about to be repopulated by Argentinians.
Edit: Yep. Sons of bitches just closed their port. Time for my parasite to go for the nuclear option.
My first game started in Madagascar. I have 98% of their population infected with my symptomless virus of doom. And it only took 18 days for a ship to put into port. Jesus, bunch of insular bastards.
On the high score list one of the disease names is “Madagascar **** you.”
I finally got the disease to start in Madagascar. The Superclap decimated the planet, leaving only Brazil and Argentina to repopulate the planet with their delicious feijoada and catchy tango music. On the bright side, everyone in Madagascar is dead.
The real purpose of this game stands revealed - it is to generate genocidal hatred towards the otherwise largely innoffensive and unknown-in-the-West people of Madagascar.
Game 1 - Parasite - Only survivor: Madagascar
Game 2 - Bacteria - Only survivor: Madagascar
Game 3 - Virus - Only survivors: Madagascar… and Greenland.
In game 3 the two surviving areas actually managed to create a vaccine (not that it mattered). Why can’t I have one of the major powers just nuke them as a last act of defiance. (“Not gonna die like the rest of us? Try and come up with a vaccine against this!”)
Argentina was the lone holdout in one of my games, too. I was so ridiculously excited when the virus was spotted in Madagascar (SCREW YOUUUU, MADAGASCAR!!) early on, and then fricking Argentina closes its borders? Aaaugh!
I did find that you don’t necessarily have to start with the virus in Madagascar, though. If the virus starts anywhere in that area of the country (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) it has a good chance of infecting Madagascar if you can keep a low profile for long enough. I went with no symptoms and only Drug Resistance 1 in the game I eventually won, until all countries were infected, and then I went nuclear and instantaneously escalated to full drug resistance, hemorrhaging, kidney failure, etc. Death ensued fairly quickly. And now I never have to play this God damned game again. Woo frigging hoo.
I finally got the whole world infected by switching out symptoms at level 1 - I’d sell sneezing for fever or the like.
Madagascar is finally infected with the iSick bacteria, that’s almost fully drug resistant. I just need more evolution points to get some good deadly symptoms.
If a country closes its borders is that it as far as spreading infection? I know closing airports and shipyards works for islands, but can a country seal itself off on land in this game?
So what’s a good way to go when you decide to go lethal? I saved up my points and went with hemorrhaging but it turned out to be relatively mild - I barely killed four billion people. Should I have gone with my other big-point choice, kidney failure, or stick with a combination of low point items like fever and pulmonary edema? Or pay the points for Tier IV and look for the really good stuff?
I haven’t had trouble with Madagascar, starting in Indonesia, but somehow New Zealand closed up tighter than a nun’s thighs. Everywhere else there’s not an uninfected soul, but New Zealand is still green and pleasant. They even had a damn earthquake and nobody died.
