Someone in the Pit commented on their newspaper having a picture of a flag that could be removed and your could display it in case you couldn’t find a “real” flag. The Chicago Sun Times did the same and I assume other papers have as well.
Out of curiousity, is the protocol for these flags the same as any other? When you’re done with it, does one properly burn it or just toss it in the recycling bin? Part of me says “Sheesh, it’s just a piece of paper, man. Get over it” but at the same time I think “You obviously mean to display this as you would any other flag so wouldn’t tossing it in the trash be just as disrespectful as it would if the flag was made of cloth?” In other words, if you’re transcending the Stars and Stripes above its material components, be they cloth, plastic or paper shouldn’t it be one and the same?
I have a feeling this will be bumped to IMHO (which is fine) but I actually was looking for a bona fide bit of protocol if such a thing exists.
