If he did it he’s a lowlife scum bag.
But he hasn’t actually been proven guilty yet has he ?
Yep, if he did it, he’s an asshole of the highest order.
My SO was a paramedic for many decades (a member of the first group of paramedics trained in his state, in fact) and…wow, the stories he can tell. Some of them include “ambulance chasers” - not lawyers, but groupies of a sort, women who’d try to get into his rig and have sex with him. It being the 70’s, sometimes he’d oblige them. But today, absolutely not, no way. It’d be too easy for a consenting woman to later claim something like this happened.
Things like this are one of the reasons that several ambulance/firefighting companies make it a policy to always have AT LEAST three people on every call…one can drive, one attends to the patient, and the third, not being pre-occupied by driving, and usually in the back with the patient as well, can be a witness. (Though usually it’s not officially to have a witness, it’s for manpower, because sometimes just one person attending to a patient isn’t enough, especially if they’re combative.)
It’s too bad this company didn’t do that…if the man is guilty, then the third person being in the back would have prevented him from doing it in the first place (though obviously he’s still a terrible human being for thinking about/wanting to do it,) and if he didn’t do it, we’d have a witness to testify to that.
Mod Note:
Not really an IMHO, but not really a pitting yet either.
Moving this to MPSIMS. Let’s see how it develops.
I’m a bit dubious about the story. She claims this happened while strapped to a gurney? I’ve been transported a couple times in an ambulance. There’s not a lot of room. The way you’re strapped down makes removing clothing nearly impossible. EMT’s or ER’s at the hospital cut the clothes off with scissors or a special knife. If she came in like that stripped that would require an explanation at the hospital.
I can see some low life groping a patient and that is a crime. But a five or ten minute ambulance ride just doesn’t seem to give the time to remove clothes and commit rape. I’m skeptical. How would you even position a woman’s legs that is strapped to a gurney? Rape could happen but it would take time and trying to rearrange clothes to cover up the crime difficult.
I wonder just how intoxicated this lady was? They said it was a Christmas eve party and she was drunk enough to fall and knock herself out.
If he did it then he is scum and deserves prison. But I’ll wait to hear more proof. The circumstances just don’t add up.
EMT chiming in.
I seriously doubt the accusation, for all the reasons mentioned previously, but I will grant that the patient THOUGHT an assault or rape happened. It’s part of the job to get very personal doing an examination, especially when there is trauma involved. Even setting up a 3 or 12 lead EKG on a heart patient puts you in close contact with lady bits, and we don’t trauma strip those people.
A standard trauma exam has you palpating chest, abdomen, pelvis, and lower extremities. If the patient is female and uncomfortable around men, it’s enough to make the accusations fly.
I’ve never had any accusations made against me, mostly because I try to explain what I’m doing, plus I’ve been mostly fortunate to have extra crew.
I’ve also kept my mouth shut on the three occasions that I’ve been groped, so sexual assault can go both ways.
Agreed. The story as written is lacking critical details.
The EKG could be good evidence to clear the EMT. Isn’t that date/time stamped? If they can establish he was setting up the probes and doing the EKG. Getting an IV started etc. That significantly reduces any time for him to commit any assault or rape. He was too busy trying to stabilize her and save her life.
Still, it is nice to have a thing to think about while unconscious.
She was at a holiday party-- it’s not a stretch that she would have been wearing a dress. I don’t know what kind of 22 year old she is, but if she’s like my friends and I were, that dress was probably very, very short.
Well then, she was aski… OW!:smack:
Come on, you know her point was in response to aceplace57’s comment about having the time to remove her clothes.
subscribing…
Very messed up…
…there were people whose lives were so empty they became ambulance groupies? Nothing resembling a rock star ever traveled through their one horse towns?
I recall one accident we handled where the driver drove off of a straight, level, dry stretch of road. He was thrown free of the car.
While we were working on him, the other crew extricated and removed the passenger from the car. Oddly, they took her out behind a blanket. My immediate thought was that she had arrested, and they didn’t want the driver to see them doing CPR.
In fact, she was wearing no pants. She also had a serious injury on her right hip, caused by a projection on the dashboard.
If you visualize what her position at the time of the crash had to have been to receive that injury, you may have a clue as to why the driver went off of a straight, flat, level stretch of road.
The story made the rounds of the district for quite some time…
Well, and the back of a jouncing, jostling speeding ambulance is not really conducive for intimate relations. I’ve had trouble sometimes staying upright nevermind the kind of acrobatics a rape would require.
… and it’s still rape if the perp uses his finger instead of his schwinger.
Here is an article from the local newspaper, the New Haven Register, on the story. It also contains a scan of the arrest warrant. The article says, “During an interview with police, Powell denied he sexually touched her, then later said he touched her private parts ‘to elicit a response from or awake the female,’ according to the warrant.”
OMG. He said I just diddled it, like it was perfectly acceptable.
