Childhood trauma (pain) creates the need for resolving and avoiding this pain.
Remembering the childhood trauma creates sexual resistance, that sparks sexual excitement (pleasure).
Sex is used to resolve pain thru the victim becoming the victor in the cellular stored information.
Victims are sexually attracted to the gender they have had conflict with in childhood.
When victims become victors thru sex, they become addicted to the pleasure by forming neuronal pathways to the pleasure centers in the brain, and thru neuro-peptide
information traveling to the receptor sites of each cell in the body.
Should homosexuality and rape be classified as paraphilias? My position is that they should, and I do understand that I am being politically incorrect.
References: Anything written by the following researchers (Note: my position does not necessasarily reflect the position of these researchers)
I remember watching Love Line, and some girl called and said her boyfriend HAD to masturbate with peanut butter and raw steaks. I don’t EVEN want to know…
Men are paraphilliacs bacause they suffer more childhood trauma? No really, I’m just guessing, you lost me.
And how can you call homosexuality a paraphillia?
My guess is that males and females suffer the same amount of childhood trauma. I am also speculating that testosterone is a factor that is needed in the formation of the paraphilia. Since males have more testosterone than females, males express the paraphilias more than females.
The experts used to classify homosexuality as a paraphilia before it became politically incorrect to do so. I am not sure what year this changed. My position applies to homosexuals as well as heterosexuals. Some researchers think that it was a mistake to make this change, and so do I. My thought is that the taboo of being a homosexual, alone, sets up a sexual resistance that leads to sexual excitement, which can then lead to being addicted to the taboo. This would be similar to being raised in the bible belt and being conditioned to the meme, that sex is sinful. Sexual sin becomes the taboo. Another example is that some males can only get sexually excited by having sex with another males wife, and possibly thinks of this as a taboo.
Incest is another example, which is a popular theme in pornography. Robert Stoller once made the statement, “If you wish to know about a person’s sexuality, look at his pornography.”

By that logic, as gay rights become more and more advanced in any particular locale, gay people there should be having less and less sex. Happily for me, this does not appear to be the case.
Except for hormones, all reasons listed in the OP apply equally to males and females. Problem with this is that prepubescent children have insignificant amounts of sex hormones.
There is some evidence that humans CAN be born homosexual. If we accept this evidence (and I do), none of the factors in the OP cause homosexuality. Esprix is much more informed on the nature vs nurture debate as it pertains to homosexuality.
Nature vs nurture is relevant to this discussion, as its topic is human behavior. It's alluded to in the OP. Is a fetish caused by societal influences? Brain configuration or chemical composition? Or is it related to a single event in a persons life?
While a taboo can make an activity more appealing or enjoyable to those already predisposed to commit it, taboo alone will not make people engage in that behavior. If societal taboo were that powerful, we'd all be having sex with corpses, blood relatives, and animals.
Rape is rarely (I'll post link to the appropriate Snopes page in a minute) due to sexual desire. Rapists are generally acting on anger, sadism, or a desire for power. Sex is only a means to this end.
Ok. That make a little more sense. But, on what do you base the connection betwwen testosterone and parapllia, other than the fact that men have more of it and are more likely to be paraphillas? Going by Exprix’s link, most paraphillias don’t seem specifically marked by aggression. Rather the hallmark seems to be obsession. And they don’t seem to involve the victem become victor. Unless you consider orgasm itself to be a victory. (Actually, I do. Of life over death, snatching joy from the jaws of despair, that sort of thing. But not victory over another person.)
Did they? I know it was classified as a mental disorder according to…DMS II? DMS I? I don’t know what year it was either (I’m not going to get into “political correctness” as the source of the change). But I wouldn’t think it meets the definition of paraphillia.
Sorry, I can’t see the taboo factor playing much if any part in any homosexuals life. If that were that point, why would they spend the last thirty years campagning for acceptance if all it was going to do is ruin their sex lives? (What matt said.)
If you want to go on thinking homosexuality is a mental disorder of some kind, I can’t stop you (tho I might try) but once again I don’t think it meet the definiton of a paraphillia.
If the only way a person could achieve orgasm was to have sex with someone against their wll, I guess that would be paraphillia. But of course that is not the case with most rapists or, like you said, the cause of most rapes.
If societal taboo were that powerful, we’d all be having sex with corpses, blood relatives, and animals.

One of my favorite questions to females is “What is your favorite sexual fantasy.” Although I have not come across any Necrophiliacs or Zoophiliacs (sp?), I have come across some that fantasize about having sex with their Father, Brothers, and First Cousins.
I have found that most females are reluctant to talk about their sexual fantasies, probably because it is not considered lady like. This has created the myth that females do not have sexual fantasies. It took Nancy Friday’s research and the writing of her book “My Secret Garden” to question this myth.
I question your assumption that rape is not due to sexual desire. If you are willing to accept that perhaps you have been memetically conditioned to accept this theory, then perhaps you will be willing to be memetically conditioned to accept that rape IS caused by sexual desire. Although I hate for people to recommend books for me to read, I am going to do it anyway. I recommend that you read “A History Of Rape” by Randy Thornhill and some of his interviews on the net. Randy is an Evolutionary Biologist, and teaches at UNM.
Anger—See my OP, is the person trying to become the victor using sex (pleasure), to counter the previous history of being the victim (trauma = pain).
Sadism = Power—The last time I checked Sadism, Masochism, Sado-Masochism all fell under the Paraphilias when sex was involved.

Jesse-the book History of Rape is hardly considered credible-most find it incredibly laughable, to say the least.
most—I was not aware that a poll had been taken on the credibility of Randy’s book. Apparantly you have been influenced by social scientists instead of biologists.
I’m curious to know if you personally read past the title, and if you do have the book, does your copy (like mine) have a faded orange sticker inside the front cover that reads “this is DEGRADING to WOMEN”.
I just looked at my copy and noticed that I have not been giving the correct title. The correct title is “A Natural History Of Rape”.
Personal Note: About nine months ago I was living in Santa Fe, NM, and went to the local Borders Bookstore, and asked an attractive female clerk if they stocked (in a rather loud voice) A Natural History Of Rape. The attractive female clerk stomps off to the section where the book was shelved, leaving me about ten paces behind. After she pushed the book into my abdomen, we returned to the counter. Being of a playful nature, I preceeded to ask her if she happened to have the records of how many copies had been sold at this particular store. With a rather rude voice, her answer was “We do not keep those kind of records.” About a week later I drove to Albuquerque and talked to Randy about his book and other Darwinian stuff. Randy invited me to set in on his class “Human Sexuality”. My first day at his class I noticed all the students had copies of his book, and I am quessing that most had been autographed by Randy at their request.
I have stated this before—The world is going Darwinian, forget about Outdated Social Science Memes.

I’ve noticed that this sort thing tends to be, in my observation, predominantly female. A depressingly large number require some sort of degrading or physical abuse to become aroused. Probably has to do with abusive fathers, or something, but I’m not going to play the “look I took a psychology class!” game.
With who? Unless you disagree with the definition provided in the link, (and you haven’t provided any other) Sado-Masochism would only be considered a Paraphilias in the case of individuals who could ONLY become sexually aroused given certain specific Sado-Masochistict stimulus.
That would not mean the Sado-Masochism is not, of itself a paraphillia.
Perhaps you should re-read the definition.
Maybe you really mean “perversion”. Which would be an entirely different kettle of fish. And call for a new definition.
Additionally, I’m confused by your defining rape as both a paraphillia and a sucessful evolutionary stratgy. I am dubious about Mr. Thornhill’s claims on a Darwinian level, and I would certainly think rape as an exclusive reproductiive strategy (as it would be if it were a paraphilia) would be particularly unsucessful.
By that logic, as gay rights become more and more advanced in any particular locale, gay people there should be having less and less sex.
Not necessarily less sex, but probably less satisfying sex. If two gay’s have only been having oral sex, and their sexual pleasure has begun to decrease, then they might add anal sex, if having anal sex is perceived as a taboo. This also applies to lesbians, and impotent gays, with strap on toys.
From my reading and interviews with gay’s and lesbians, sexual jealousy (pain) seems to be a sexual resistance they use to spark sexual excitement (pleasure). Do you agree?
I can not remember the anthropologists name, but anyway, he studied the sex lives of the Trobrianders (sp?). The youth of this tribe have promiscuous sex with the approval of the authority figures. The problem with this cultural practice is that when they get married, they have no sexual desire, relatively speaking. To create sexual resistance with the resulting sexual excitement the wife bites the eyebrows of the husband, until blood gushes forth.
