Oh, we have a lot. The most used is probably Caileigh Bean, but there’s also Beaner, Boo, Cailieigh Boo, Baby Boo, Schniklefritz (I’m not looking up the spelling, sorry), Hanyach (ditto), Little Bit, Caileigh Cat…really, any nonsense that leaps to mind when we’re feeling silly has the potential for great reuse.
My son was Squirt until about age 7 when he finally asked how he got his nickname. I confessed that it was because he had, as an infant, peed in his dad’s mouth during a diaper change, and he wasn’t so fond of the nickname after that!
Oh, heavens. Nathaniel is Nat, Natpants, Captain Awesome, Natman. He’s three. Thomas is ten months old and he’s Kitten, Kittenpants, Mr. Squish, Tiny Baby, Little Person. We’ve got hundreds, most of them will be deeply embarrassing for them to remember when they’re older, and we’ll be very sad when we have to stop continually nicknaming.
My four year old daughter is Moo, Moomaloo, Moodle, Moodledoodle, Mooey, Little Moo, Mooish and variations. Pre-birth she was Skippy (husband is Australian, and we didn’t know the sex). Kid2, 16 weeks gestation so far, is currently Bean.
The nicknames we use the most are Schlomo and Glickstein or Mutt and Jeff, both when we’re referring to both at one time. Sometimes we call both their names as one - rickanddeirdre. Rick has also become Rickydoodle and Deirdre is Didiroo.
The Boy was nicknamed Pokey on account of, from the time I thought I was expecting until the time he arrived was 11.5 months. We waited a long time for him and he was a big baby. [Hey, I was cute, not smart]. And of course as soon as he was mobile he poked into EVERYthing!
The Girl went by her real name until their Dad called the two of them Phobos and Deimos,
Fear and Terror. I think it had something to do with the fact that nothing he owned was safe from their fingers.
For some unknown reason in my culture you give your kids nicknames that aren’t exactly complimentary. I call my daughter “stink butt” “smelly monkey” and “big goose” Hey I’m nothing if not original!
When he was little he was Diaperbutt, Austin Little Butt and Austintonio. (His name is Austin.) Also Boobear for a while.
Since about kindergarten, he’s been The Boy when being referred to (Have you seen The Boy recently?) and Buddy when speaking to him. The Boy was because he seemed to have superhearing just for for his name - we found we could talk about The Boy but the minute we said “Austin” he’d turn up, even if we didn’t want him to. (Take The Boy to the doctor tomorrow for his immunisations, please.) So it just stuck.
My own childhood nickname of Booger Bear is STILL in use by my much loved and aged Grandaddy. He calls me Boog. I’m 42 years old. He’s 80. I guess he’s allowed, but… geez. I put a stop to the full nickname when I was in highschool.
My oldest son Justice we call Crust…can’t remember where that came from. My daughter Kali is either Boogs or Kalifornia. My youngest son DJ (Dan Jr.) is Leedo Lee…some variant form of little Dan. Or Witto Weedo because he still uses the W sound for the L sound.
My father seems to be incapable of using anyone’s actual names. Thus the four of us, at least at one point, have been Special, Precious, Treasure/T/O&O (one and only), and Cool Boy/Cool/C. The cats are Squeaky and Tickles, and nothing will convince him otherwise.
My oldest, George, was “Squirtlet” as a baby and then “Bunkins” as he got older. “Bunks” for short.
Next to oldest, only girl Kate, is “Pinkie” or “Pinkie-Poo” (when she needed a diaper, “Stinky-Poo”) “Pinks” for short.
Next to youngest, James, is “Peanut”.
Youngest, Charles, is “Charlie-Bucket” (ala Willy Wonka)“Chuck-Bucket” (when he’s spitting up, which is frequent) or “Bucket-Head” Also just plain “Bucket”. Now that he’s down on the floor creeping (6 months old) we remind the other kids playing nearby to be careful not to kick the Bucket.
So yea, we’ve got Bunkins, Pinkie, Peanut, and Bucket. A nice assortment of bizarre nicknames. Sounds like a group of trained elephants at the circus.
My son is Monkey, Pagzalicious, Toots or Super Man.
My daughter is known as Up and About or Alakazam. She’s Up and About because of an off-hand comment I made about her one day to my son. “When Evelyn is up and about, we can take off.” From then on, she was Up and About. But she’s been Alakazam even longer, which is short for Evelyn-Bevelyn-Alakazam.
Same here. Boo is often appended to her name, too. She’s also sweetypie, honeybun, sugarplum, snook, snooky-wook, stinkybum, poobum (in an affectionate way - don’t know where that one comes from), horror, monster, Tiger (online), or a combination of all the above.
It’s only in the last year or so that I’ve started using her name with any regularity, because she’d be embarrassed about being called sugarplummywumkin in front of her friends; TBH I’m surprised that I ever use such a cutesy term myself.
She now uses all the same nicknames for the puppy.
My husband called our daughter Cupcake or Pumpkin Pie. I called her Sweetness on her good days & Dragon Queen on the not so good ones. I still do call her Sweetness on occasion.
My son was Buddha as a baby. Recently its been Blondie. When hes with his best mate we call them Blonde & Blonder. There’s a reason for that.
