Parents worry elections will compromise childrens' safety

Sheep. Wyoming has sheep. And they are afraid, very afraid.

OK - I’ll bite. How are you supposed to vote if the location is undisclosed?

By following a series of clues, each more fiendishly devious than the last.

Or finding Cheney’s bunker. That’ll work too.

I think the fact that it was the FUCKING WORLD TRADE CENTER, tallest buildings in the city, world famous, and symbol of global trade and capitalism (hence the name), had more to do with the terrorist’s choice of target than the primary elections.

cheddarsnax, why do you hate America?

Because he hates our freedom.

I’m going back to my bomb shelter now.

9/11/2001 was the date of the NYC mayoral primary as I recall, and while the election was postponed, I don’t believe either of the destroyed buildings was a polling location.

For the record, Dick Cheney is from Casper, Wyoming. As Bill Maher put it, “the only town whiter than the ghost itself”.

Yes, I’m sure that’s exactly why they crashed a plane into it.

And that field in Pennsylvania may have had a cow in it.

Obviously, everyone should stay away from livestock.

I live on one of the two (2) cities in the US that have actually been subject to recent terrorist attacks. I find it ironic and a bit scary that a bunch of dumbasses from podunk who’ll never even set foot anywhere that the terrorists may strike are going to be a major determining factor in how we handle this problem.

My polling place is at the middle school near me. Our school system makes election day a teacher work day (no school!), due to the fact that most of the schools are polling places. Seems sensible to me…

I cannot help but suspect that this is just more scaremongering to try to keep as many people away from the polls as possible, and guess who benefits from low turnout?

Equipoise, this isn’t about women. It’s about parents. Parents are men exactly as often as they are women.

Please stick to the spirit of the rant and leave your misogyny outside.

(Now I’ll do a quick check to make sure you’re not a woman and you weren’t being sarcastic.)

On the primary day at my daughter’s school. the four year old kindergarten had a bake sale which raised 1000$. In that due to the No Child Left Untest…erm Behind Act my daughters school lost 150,000 dollars and a teacher, that money is going to be well used.

I honestly can’t see any gain for terrorists hitting schools on November 2nd and if they did out of the tens of thousands of schools to choose from I just don’t see them choosing a small urban school in a second rank city.

I didn’t see any misogyny there, but to each their own.

Even if it was a primary polling place, I sincerely doubt that was the reason for the attack.

Of course, Osama is a madman, and maybe he did want to disrupt the NYC mayoral primaries, knowing that would bring America to its knees and give him the symbolic victory he wanted. The other attacks…simply misdirection from his true goal.

For the sarcasm-impaired, look to the above paragraph for an example.

I realize I introduced something off-topic here, but they were somewhat related. The term “Security Mom” is very specific and has been tossed around for at least a couple weeks now. I don’t watch much TV, but last night, after I posted, I saw a feature on Countdown with Keith Olbermann about them, so it’s not just my imagination.

But yes, I do realize that men are parents too (I double-checked with my ex-husband, and my granddaughter’s father).

I do understand the fears of the people in the OP, especially after the Russian school incident, but the culture of fear in today’s society is ruling people’s lives and common sense. People need to get a grip. They especially need to understand that the country is NOT “safer” under GWB, who has done more to foster terrorism than anyone in the history of the country. Yet those people in Husdon will probably vote for him anyway. Generations of Americans, including MY granddaughter, are going to be paying for his, um, “miscalculations.”

What misogyny? And yes, I am a woman, who’s sick with fear, not of terrorists, but of well-meaning but ignorant people who might vote based on soundbites rather than real issues.

Me too.

Good job, Ghanima.

Yup, Ghanima is my new hero

Some people just need so badly to switch to decaf.

FWIW, down here election day is a day off from school. Heck, it’s even a general “Bank Holiday” so a majority of the workforce has the day off. Been that way since anyone can remember it. Problem solved, and on Monday and Wednesday the children still get to see the assembly and takedown of the polling places.

Props sent Ghanima’s way.

My 13 year old daughter told me about a school field trip to Washington D.C. being planned this year. I talked with her about what she would be seeing, and we read together some interesting trivia about the various buildings and monuments. We researched a little about how D.C. was chosen to be our capitol. It was educational, enlightening, and fun for both of us.

Yesterday I got a call from her mom. Seems there is concern about going to Washington due to the possibility of terrorist activity. I tried to be rational, and pointed out that there was a greater likelyhood of the school bus wrecking than of terrorist attacks. I have a big mouth; now she is talking about stopping our daughter from going due to unsafe transportation.

I hope you don’t have stairs in your house. People can fall down the stairs and DIE! Don’t go to sleep either. People DIE in their sleep! ROFLMAO

Aw, shucks, guys, all the flattery’s making me blush. :o I was just in one hell of a mood when I wrote that.
