That’s a long-standing urban legend. It generally emphasizes the race and socioeconomic status of the mother, and always ends with “the dash don’t be silent” in order to hammer the point home. A similar legend focuses on two twin brothers named “Orangejello” and “Lemonjello” because their (black, low income, but you probably guessed that) mom was too stupid to come up with a name.
After a man farting at the dinner table, an offended man asks, “How dare you fart in front of my wife”. To which the man who farted responded, “Sorry, didn’t realize it was her turn.”
There are similar urban legends about (lower-socio-economic-status) women naming her baby after something mom read in her medical chart. The punchline is that the kid’s name is Chlamydia.
Electronic medical records pretty much kill this joke dead.
That must have been one really, really toxic fart.
I am sure people cracked the same misguided jokes about Condoleezza but she is highly successful.
These were the names that didn’t make the cut.
For the love of all things holy, why?
There are stories going around about a mother who wanted to name her daughter “As’sholey” spelled “Asshole”.
My daughter read the list of discarded names and thanked me for not giving her any of them.
Well, the parents named her that so she would grow up strong.
But, couldn’t they accomplish that by simply naming her Sue?
XKCD always has something relevant, doesn’t it?
I suppose it depends on what the farter had been eating recently…
I seriously doubt this is the first time this boy did something to this girl. I’m sure harassment has been ongoing.
But let’s make fun of her name some more!
Thanks, glad the thread finally made it here before I had to say it.
It sounds unusual, but it may be nothing more than a variation on “Jocasta.”
Although one then has to wonder whether the inspiration was classical myth or Marvel comics.
Is this a “straw that broke the camel’s back” situation of provocation?
I guess I never realized the full meaning of the phrase “silent but deadly”
