Does it make any difference if you renew an Irish passport in Ireland using your Irish address, or renew it from overseas using an overseas address?

In Ireland you have to use a different form depending on whether you live in Ireland or overseas. I don’t know if that answers your question.

ruadh Thanks - yes I’ve been all over the websites for both countries. I’ll be travelling to both England & Ireland shortly and have addresses in both countries, but I’m wondering if it makes any difference as to where I am resident. Probably not - I was just hoping someone could give me some pointers on that.

If you do not live in the UK, you may apply in person to renew your passport whilst visiting the UK. In order to do this, you need to make an appointment at a passport office and you must provide an address in the UK to which the passport may be posted. You should call our 24-hour Passport Adviceline 0300 222 0000 (see terms and conditions) to make an appointment at one of our offices. We can offer a Fast Track one week service or a Premium same-day service. Please note the Premium same-day service is not available for first passports, extensions to a passport, or to replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport. More about urgent applications

There are eligibility criteria for renewing a passport, if you don’t meet the requirements then you need to apply for a new passport which is a bit more involved.

You can apply to renew if:

• your last passport was a standard adult 10-year passport or
• a 5-year child’s passport, issued before you were 16.
• you still have your last passport and
• your passport is not damaged and
• you do not need to change your name or national status
