I agree, and I would have looked in those drawers because, as Sherlock Holmes once said, “When you’ve eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”
What (or who) was? Why would someone seal a perfectly good cupboard? How could you live with the mystery of a locked room, albeit a tiny one?
Someone before I lived there slapped a thick coat of paint on the bathroom walls. The little cupboard was painted shut and I had no immediate need for a cupboard, plus I was renting the place while house-hunting.
Sounds like a real professional job. ![]()
Does she eat out a lot? ![]()
HA! LOL
She is on the go, so she eats out 2 or 3 times a week but, more importantly, she only cooks on rare occasions. I eat there a couple of times a week and either cook or bring food. My brother cooks a couple of times a week. So, yes, she is definitely not used to even opening those drawers. LOL
I put mine in for renewal in August.
It’s still “pending review”.
I wonder if it just stays pending and then will automatically clear renewal when it expires? Not that I would say it’s ok to wait to apply as everyone is say “long wait times “. I checked my emails and I put in the renewal on line at 2pm Friday and 3:40am Sunday got the status change update , which looks like an automatic clearing and I certainly don’t have any special status so must have gotten lucky.
Oh well the mysterious ways of bureaucracy will remain mysterious.
Yeah, you must have gotten lucky.
Mine has already expired - I renewed only just in time last August to avoid it doing so. I don’t plan on flying any time soon, but if I do need to, I hope they do indeed honor that 1 year extension!
That is weirdly long. I sent in mine for renewal after you, like October or November, and I got my new passport in December. And mine took longer than it should have because apparently my photo arrived damaged so I had to send them another one.
ETA: Wait, I see you’re talking about Global Entry, not passports. Never mind. I missed the context earlier.
I submitted the Global Entry renewal on August 23, 2023 and it’s still pending, though it’s set to expire a week from tomorrow. I asked about the delay and the form letter response said that processing times for Global Entry are running thirteen to fourteen months, They also said, “If you submit a renewal application before your membership expires, you will be able to continue to use benefits after your membership expiration date. We recommend that you print out a copy of your pending renewal to show the Customs and Border Protection Officer, if requested.”
I only have 3 years left on my Passport and am definitely not looking forward to renewal. My SiL was happy to announce that, when they replaced her lost Passport, they also renewed it even though it had 3 years left on it. I guess that was the one good thing that came out of that traumatic event! Now, she doesn’t have to worry about it for a full ten years.
Better now (as others upthread have said, passport processing times are generally reasonable these days) than during the height of COVID.
I don’t know how long my daughter’s took; she never said when it arrived. And that was late in 2020, so it would have been as slow as dirt. Luckily in her case, she didn’t need it urgently, I just insisted on replacing it because it is SO handy to have in an emergency.
They do basically reissue from scratch when you get a replacement; pretty sure my daughter’s is good through 2030. I may apply for our household passports to be renewed later this year - none of them expire until 2028, but it couldn’t hurt to do it well in advance.
Our cleaning ladies do something similar. They don’t like leaving random items lying around, but are sometimes too lazy to figure out the correct place for them. So they stick them in the nearest drawer, cupboard, etc. We have learned to look for missing items in otherwise unlikely places of concealment.
And IMO that sort of thing is an argument against hiring cleaners. I’d feel weird about privacy to begin with, and I’m quite good enough at misplacing my belongings myself, without having to try to figure out what someone I don’t know did with something.
One one hand, all of that. On the other hand, I hate cleaning. So either way for me.
It also gets you TSA Precheck for domestic flights, which was worth it to me - especially as my credit card reimburses the application fee. Might also be handy if you get to skip the long CBP inspection line and you have a short layover for a connecting flight.
I was wondering if I needed to sign up for Global Entry for my planned trip to Glasgow in August, but it looks like my TSA PreCheck is sufficient for a single international trip. Now I just need to verify if I need to get a visa.
In our case, it’s an argument for cleaning up our own damn clutter before the cleaner comes; she / they are there to clean, not organize.
Our cleaner (who retired last June, and whom we really, really, really need to replace, would tend to make tidier piles of all our crap. It did indeed occasionally make finding stuff a challenge - which we considered appropriate punishment for our sloth. Luckily we never left out anything important like passports - those are the one rare item for which we have, AND USE, a very specific spot to store them.
AH!! She shoots … … she scores! LOL
Exactly, and my SiL knows she dropped the ball by leaving such an important document on, of all places, the island. I say “of all places” because that’s where everything gets dropped when one first walks in. Groceries? On the island. Purse, tote, packages? On the island. Etc.
