Passport renewal

A friend is renewing her passport. She says the application has ‘Most recent passport book or card’ and wants to know if that is the number of her current passport. It’s been nearly six years since I renewed mine, so I don’t remember the application. I do remember that I filled out a form, gave them two photos and my old passport, and they sent me my old passport back with a hole punched in it and the new passport.

So ‘Most recent passport book or card’. Are they just asking for the number? Or does she actually have to mail/take in the old passport?

My recollection is the same as yours- I had to give them my old passport in order to get the new one. IIRC, they sent it back with some holes punched in it to show it wasn’t usable anymore.

Since it doesn’t specify “number” I think it’s the whole passport they want.

I renewed mine just a few months ago. I had to send the old one in.

If her’s has been expired more than, IIRC, 6 months, she’ll have to reapply.

OK, she sent me a link to the .pdf-format application form.

She knows she’ll have to send her old passport in. Now that I see the form, it looks like they’re asking for the number (see #10 on the form).

So just to verify, they are looking for the passport number there? (As I said, it’s been a while for me; and I did it in person.)

If it were me, then yes I would be listing the passport # in that section of #10.

That’s what I thought. I’ll let her know.

Thanks!
