There’s really no need to get your congressperson involved, either. There are procedures in place already for expedited processing of a passport. Of course, there are fees for that; however, depending on the reason for the hurry, those may be waived. I know that the last time I got a passport issued (2000), the fee was waived for me because having a passport was a requirement for the job for which I was a candidate. The other candidate didn’t bother to get his application expedited and thus he didn’t get the job–I did.
