Well, this is simply a poll asking if you think Pat is a man or a woman. I first saw the character only recently in SNL reruns. Altohugh entertaining, I really have no opinion. Weird.
And if Pat’s gender was ever actually proved, don’t spoil it for me. Just tell me your first impressions.
Well, if Pat were a woman, that would make “Terry”…
Um…
I’ll go with what slythe said. “Yes.”
P.S. Isn’t it amazing how much it bugs us not to know people’s gender? That’s always the first thing we want to know about babies - “is it a boy or a girl”.
Yes, that is amazing. It’s what makes the show funny, seeing how desperate the people are to come up with new things to ask. They really don’t like not knowing.
Actually, it was once revealed. Pat was at a gym and was going into the fitting room. Everyone was watching to see which one s/he (that abbreviation has never been more useful) went in to. Sadly, just as the choice was made, there was an emergency announcement from, I believe, the president. But, when we returned, everyone in the gym was relieved that they finally knew Pat’s gender. So take comfort in that.
Incidentally, anyone know how much moeny the “It’s Pat” movie grossed in the box offices? I read somewhere once that it was like $150,000. Period. That’s all.
I don’t think that the movie was ever released to theaters, was it? I remember hearing that the movie was SO bad that they decided not to release it to theaters.
My sister worked for a video store, and the store had the option of buying the “It’s Pat” video. They passed. (Apparently, many other stores did as well, if the movie did that badly). I kind of wished that they had bought it, because I was curious about it. I was disappointed that they apparently botched the movie, because I did enjoy most of the sketches.
I’ll go out on a limb here and say that Pat seems more like a woman to me than a man. Perhaps it’s because I know that it’s really a woman playing the character. I’ve never heard a man with that sort of voice (s/he sounds like an old woman to me). Maybe it’s just the fact that Pat resembles some of the more androgynous-looking middle-aged women that I’ve seen in the Midwest.
