Patagonia Question [why are there no bears there?]

Why no bears in Patagonia? We’re there ever?

South America, like North America, once had Short-Faced Bears. One of these was thelargest bear that ever existed. Some of these bears reached southern South America, probably including Patagonia.

These bears became extinct with most of the rest of megafauna at the end of the Pleistocene. The only surviving bear in South America is the Spectacled Bear of the Andes.
