I can find patents per capita fairly easily, but I suspect that the number of patents actually brought to market could be significantly different. Can anyone find a metric like this (as compared internationally)? An alternative might be number of unique products brought to market per capita.
I’m on my way out the door, but I can quickly tell you that in 2008 Japan filed 28,744 patent applications. But that doesn’t represent unique products brought to market - the correlation is very tenuous. Most patent applications are micro improvements on existing tech. Cheers.
Indeed, which is why I’m trying to find a metric that is a bit more meaningful in terms of market force.
