I’ve been hearing about this case on MSNBC. The mother’s actions suck, for obvious reasons. I can understand the father being very, very angry, too. But to completely cut off contact with that boy is so far beyond me. My own dad is not my biological father–he was my stepdad, and he adopted me when I was two. He is the one that put calamine lotion on my chicken pox, escorted me to the Girl Scout Father-Daughter square dances, and taught me how to drive a stick shift, and all the other stuff that dads do.
Then there’s my husband. He has a son who just celebrated his 6th birthday. He & his son are very close, and we see him often. His son has two older sisters, who’s biological father is absent. My husband is their “daddy,” even though the girls know he’s not their biological father.
The man in Pennsylvania does have some of my sympathy. An earlier poster mentioned fraud–that’s what I see here, too. But to completely cut off a relationship with a child you love, and who loves you, simply because there’s no biology involved…well, I can’t even find the right words to express how angry it makes me.
Okay, I’m done spewing. Thanks.
