Nah, I’m a book editor. That anecdote is famous among authors whose books have been adapted for the screen.
And Alan Moore got it wrong in that interview (I peeked after I read your post)…it WAS Cain, not Raymond Chandler, who said it.
Although, considering the quality of THE BIG SLEEP, DOUBLE INDEMNITY, THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE, etc., neither one of 'em had TOO much to complain about Hollywoodwise.
