I just saw this movie again last night. Damn it’s good.
I honestly can’t think of a better anti-war movie I’ve seen. Kirk douglas is amazing as always. If anyone hasn’t seen this movie you really must. I do believe it’s Kubrick’s third best film.
Just had to share.
I love “Path of Glory”, too. If you haven’t seen it, I suggest that yousee “Breaker Morant”, another military courtmartial film that is very definitely worth it. The book it’s based on is grea, too. (Although I understand that the guy who wrote it recent found out that Harcourt “Breaker” MOrant was a nastier guy than he realized)
Some time ago Kirk Douglas made an episode of “Tales o the Crypt” that involved a courtmartial. It’s definitely worth seeing, despite the “Tales from the Crypt” label – it features an all-star cast, and was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The person court martialed is played by one of Douglas’ less famous relatives. Definitely worth seing.
While “Paths of Glory” is good, it’s a tad heavyhanded. “Gallipoli” is a better antiwar film, and, so is “King of Hearts” (in a quite different way, of course).
