That famous people can’t possibly be rapists. Duh. Especially if it interfers with dalej42’s favorite hockey team.
Now, now. You make him sound unreasonable.
He doesn’t care which team they play for. Or even which sport!
It’s not unprecedented. Bob Probert played for the Detroit Red Wings for about a year while he was barred from entering Canada (actually, he could enter Canada - he just would not have been able to leave afterwards).
A very good precent for a “do not incur any travel restrictions” in hockey contracts.
It’s not like her attorney can take the place of the DA, though.
Your PDF refers to the situation in the UK, by the way. I’m sure there are problems in the US, too, but the percentages in your cite can’t be applied.
I’m still baffled why she’d hire a high-profile *defense *attorney. I wouldn’t begrudge her hiring an attorney with a great reputation in civil tort suits, but I just don’t get what’s going on here.
Well, but why would you? Like why would you expect to have any information about what was going on when a certain attorney was hired instead of another in Buffalo? Maybe they contacted the local victim advocacy office and the office was like “you need somebody who is capable of handling all the shitstorm of press and horrible broken attention you’re going to get from horrible broken people… like do you know this guy dalej42? He’s a total piece of shit. You’re going to need somebody who’s used to that level of utter emptiness and depravity. I’m going to refer you to such and such, he does a lot of pro bono stuff and knows a ton about sexual violence, plus he’s really good working against this kind of level of chimpanzee-grade intolerance.”
That would never be clear.
Yes! This was the player I was trying to remember.
Although I can’t think of Kane as a flight risk, I could easily see a passport being held. What a mess.
Yeah I guess. It’ll be interesting to see what he actually does.
Not to mention Ogie Oglethorpe, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country’s refusal to accept him.
Why a criminal defense attorney?
(1) As Jimmy Chitwood said, good ones are used to doing PR/spin-control in the context of a criminal case.
(2) Hasn’t it been said many times on this board that a person should never talk to the police without their attorney, even if they think they’re not a suspect? The alleged victim presumably has done and is doing a lot of talking to the police and DA. Worst case scenario is that her allegation against Kane could become a perjury allegation against her instead if someone in the police or DA’s office were to buy into the gold-digger [del]slander speculation[/del] hypothesis. It’s a logical precaution to have a criminal defense attorney (who you should be calling if you’re going to be interviewed by the police, not the lawyer who did your last will or your cousin’s lawsuit ) at your side in such circumstances.
OK, that’s an excellent reason.
I don’t read anything at all into hiring a criminal attorney, as John Bredin commented. I do find it odd that the man is a first amendment specialist.
Mine too. My favorite player on my favorite team, and I’m hoping she’s a gold digger too (pleaseohplease let him be innocent), but I don’t know. Dalej clearly knows all about it, but not me.
It’s not from The UK, it’s from UK in Kentucky and based on US data.
dalej42, you wouldn’t happen to have a Twitter account, would you?
I’m not posting on Twitter about the Patrick Kane case.
I’m disappointed, but not surprised, that the article rehashes the usual lies about 1 in 4 women being raped, rapists are usually known to the victims, and that rape is a crime of power.
Oh really? And what sources do you have that say otherwise? :dubious:
Dear god, you really are a loathesome piece of shit. Go sit on a meathook.
Meanwhile the rest of us are terribly surprised to find that you’re either too stupid to know that you’re misrepresenting those “usual lies” or you just don’t give a shit because you’ve never had the intensive therapy you require to feel anything like a normal human emotion.
Damn I’m stupid.
Try to keep a little perspective here. Notice whose thread you posted that sentence in, for example.
Dale knows fuck all, so I wouldn’t listen to him. That being said, I can’t help but agree. Not because I’m a fan of Kane (I’m not), but because it means no one was raped. Hopefully this will turn out like the first allegation against Roethlisberger – it later was proven she was just looking for money. The only reason I’M less likely to give him the benefit of the doubt (unlike someone, like, say, Steve Stamkos*) is because of the reputation he has.
*I’m not going to list any of the Pens, because obviously I’m biased there.
