I just found out that Paul Raymond, back-up guitarist and keyboardist for the band UFO, died today of a heart attack at 73.
I saw UFO and Saxon in Oct 2017 in Montreal and it was a wonderful show in a small venue (the Corona). UFO’s doing their final tour now because their frontman, Phil Mogg, at 71 feels it’s time.
It’s bloody sad. I’m 60 and I’ve loved hard rock and metal my whole life; these guys are all getting older. I have been a huge Black Sabbath fan since I was a kid, and I saw Ronnie James Dio, their second singer, die of stomach cancer in 2010.
Through retirement and death, “my” bands are going to start dropping like flies.
Alas, mortality sucks.
