Here’s why I think it has to do with Corey being the low man in his family: He constantly complains about no one taking him seriously, and that he is a manager, dammit, and why do Rick and the Old Man question him, etc. He has issues. Can’t blame him, though. I think it would be really hard to work with family.
I’ve noticed that. I just assumed he was so fat it was uncomfortable for him to shake hands any other way.
Well, now that he’s slimmed down it will be interesting to see if he alters his handshake.
mmm
You all are forgetting the most important annoyance of his handshake. He does it on the turn away from the customer, and completely lacks the eye contact.
He does the physical portion in an “I’m superior” manner, but the rest of the action is in the “and I’m an ass” manner. Just plain disrespectful IMO.
I noticed it quickly and it sticks out to me, but not because I think it’s inherently jerkish. A handshake is very much like a signature, especially in a business like that where one is constantly negotiating and haggling. It seems like his general negotiating technique is much more aggressive in the approach sort of like he’s wrestling the guy down, where Rick and the Old Man are more inclined to try to explain the business aspect and no make the other guy feel like he was just man-handled. This also comes across in the hand shake, where his is much more exaggerated and aggressive and Rick’s is more straightforward.
So, yeah, it sticks out, because I don’t usually see that level of overt body language and I think it betrays a lack of confidence on his part, but… meh.
It drives me crazy, too. There is nothing more uncomfortable than a guy who has a weird handshake. Every man’s handshake is a personal thing. It says a lot about who he is and how he views other people. Corrie’s "power shake"says that he desperately wants to be in control. He comes in from high up and brings it down fast and hard at an angle, and I would bet that he squeezes too hard. I’ve seen him do this to older people and it looked like he was going to hurt them.
I actually found this post because I was watching Pawn Stars and just wondered if other people were as bothered by Corrie’s handshake as I am. I guess I’m not alone.
I have also noticed this. And it does annoy the shit outta me too. This kid is a punk and a smart-ass and I can’t stand him. You would think by 30 years old most guys would have outgrown this pissy attitude of his, but not him because he’s a spoiled brat.
I think it is.because of an old injury to his arm. As a survivor of a horrific motorcycle accident myself i have an injury to my left arm and wrist which prevents normal motion. I know he.has had aome bike wrecks himself and his position shows a restriction of normal motion. Something to consider rather than some kind of power play.
