Well, the situation is a little more complicated than that (there was an initial round of sales attempts a week ago, but their vendor was not up to the influx of users), but it’s true: a few hours after they went on sale “for good,” all 3 day passes to the extremely popular game convention the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) are sold out.
What’s interesting to me is what proportion of this situation is due to scalping (reports are that scalpers were recruiting buyers with cash, and are now selling at $130+ apiece in some places, which makes little sense as, right now, buying three still available single day passes is $120) and what proportion is due to simple demand. Not to mention the big question for the organizers, what do they do with either, considering that this kind of situation discourages potential attendees (though some might say that in itself is a solution to the problem).
