This inspired me from the success of the “Two For The Money” thread.
There was this television movie on PBS in the early 80’s. It might have originally come out in the late 70’s, but no later than the early 80’s. I remember the local PBS station replayed it frequently over the summers.
I don’t remember the gyst of it exactly, except that the main characters were a group of children, ages of about 10 to 12, that were at a camp of sorts. I don’t remember why they were there, or what kind of camp it was.
There was a large building in the close area - an abandoned hospital or warehouse of sorts - that they were told not to break into. I remember that some of them did, and explored the place, but it wasn’t the main part of the plot.
Anyway, the one scene that haunts me to this day is that two of the children, a young blonde girl and a young red-haired chubby boy, were separated from the rest of the group - and maybe lost.
The red-haired boy fell into a ditch in the middle of the woods and was injured. The blonde girl was trying to figure out what to do. While she was doing that, red mites started crawling over the red-haired boy and biting him.
The movie made it seem like the red-haired boy was in danger and would get some sort of disease from these red mites that were crawling over him and biting him.
This is a scene that has haunted me ever since I saw it, and has given me a lifelong fear of mites. I got the message that children should listen to adults.
Anyone else remember this television movie?
If not, can we talk about The Edison Twins?
Oh, and Otherworld did exist.
